Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Rudolf K.F. Zeitlhofer Dear sir: The unfortunate letter from the foreign gentleman printed in the Fort Frances Times of Sept. 14, advising Canadian how they should vote, is an amazing act of effrontery. Imagine telling people in another country how they should vote based on his own prejudices. What’s even […]
Michael J. Baranowski Dear editor: I wrote an article in the Fort Frances Times 15 years ago on the inauguration of a site for a bass tournament in Sioux Narrows, with its motto, “Bassin’ For Bucks,” planned and staged by organizers Mel Giesbrecht, Chris Bell, Lindsay Bowman, and the rest […]
David M. Bourgeault Dear editor: I, like most residents of Ontario, dislike taxes and would agree that in a perfect world, everyone would be paying his/her share based on their income. However, this is not likely to happen anytime soon. For the past eight years, we have seen unexpected taxes […]
Will Labovitch Dear editor: Last spring, I wrote a letter that was published in this newspaper about the federal election. What I have discovered since then is my increased interest in Canadian politics. As an American in Minnesota, I am a Democrat because of the two-party politics and any vote […]
Gordon Peters Dear editor: This is to whoever wants to listen and help: Pikangikum First Nation has, with a period of 44 days, lost five youth to suicide. These involved four females aged 15, 16, 17, and 19 and one male aged 26. The first occurrence was on July 15, […]
Becky Holden Dear Mr. Editor: The Senior and Law Enforcement Team and the Assisted Living Action Group would like to take this opportunity to thank those who have supported us over the past year. Both of these groups, although in their infancy, have heightened the awareness of seniors’ needs. The […]
Kathy Cuthbertson Dear editor: To the students of Fort High! My family and I have had so many people ask why I am not managing the FFHS caf anymore that I thought this letter might help you to understand the reason why I am not. First of all, it has […]
M.J. Baranowski Dear editor, While I was growing up in Emo and not old enough to vote, my parents were devoted to the CCF party but when becoming of age to vote, I listened on the radio to all the parties’ promises on the oncoming election, and as the Liberals […]
Dear editor: I am the person who forwarded the request to Fort Frances council asking for its endorsement of the Lyme disease petition. I am writing this letter to respond to the article printed in the Fort Frances Times last week in regards to this issue. MPP Bob Bailey started […]
Dear editor, We think it is appropriate to celebrate a young man (17 years old) of our community. He excels in academics and sports. He serves as a positive role model as well as an outstanding ambassador for our community in his travels. Even though he has one more year […]
Stan L. Sockolotuk Dear editor: I noticed the headline, “Proposed medical busing service disputed,” in last week’s edition of the Times. This was one submission I had made during the town’s strategic planning process. At the present time, there are so many people who have to go to either Thunder […]
