This is meant to make some reference to the antics of our mayor and councillors, and their employees, in our old and historic town.
Remember the newspaper article comments right after the election? It gave us hope that they would be paying attention to, and dealing with, problems facing our aged, handicapped citizens and try to deal with rising costs and the debt situation.
The handicapped parking nonsense at the arena was referred for their attention. The elected officials referred it to a non-sympathetic committee.
They advised that nothing was possible to change the situation because of the unsafe street traffic between the parking lot and the arena entrance.
The only way wheelchairs and walkers can be used to get to the present handicapped parking spaces is to go down the street as the sidewalk usually is impassable and the snowbank an effective barrier.
The obvious solution is to block the street and change the entrances to the south side of the parking lot. Be aware that they also are keenly aware that the street is unsafe to cross and gain access to the parking lot by normal pedestrian traffic.
Ask the voted mayor and councillors to close that street before someone is either killed or run down. Maybe the handicapped would be able to access the arena if the lot was moved to where the busy street was causing problems.
Also, how do you feel about the new “pie in the sky” solar-powered toys the town is putting up? At present, they installed them at on public buildings that probably weren’t engineered for the added weight and snow load that is going to occur on the roofs.
I also get a big laugh when I hear about the contracted paybacks they are expecting. These agreements are with the same people who took away and are squandering our historic water power agreement benefits.
Twenty years ago, our electricity was a fraction of the present costs. The politicians and CEOs of the hydro corporations will, without a doubt, find a way to cancel any benefits our gullible municipal contractors had hoped to recapture of the large investment of solar forms.
Oh yes, it costs lots of money to build these “pie in the sky” facilities. Where do you suppose it will come from?
It is very obvious that their toy funding will be coming from our pockets. They will utilize anything they can get their hands on.
Already for the third time, the town is trying to take away the park status for the Nelson Street park; make it into building lots (five in all) and use the money as an asset for their disposal.
What part of “No” don’t they understand. Is this the fourth time?
I, personally, take every time I can to let them know where I stand. Don’t you think you should be concerned?
