Doing nothing

Dear sir:
The dictionary says: “Toll . . . a tax or fee paid for some right or privilege.”
As there is no fee to cross into the U.S.A. here at the present time, the $6 (U.S.) charged to come to Canada can only be a tax. This tax–to enter my country–is collected by the owners of the bridge.
I strongly object to this tax, and expected our federal representative would have done something to have it removed.
Mr. Nault is a member of the Cabinet and has the opportunity to discuss this with the government. He could have used his influence and power to have this tax removed. He could have threatened to remove the Customs and close the entrance.
He could have had the pipes that move materials between the mills disconnected. The companies’ other plants could find the environment inspectors checking all the processes. The government could have complained to Washington.
The federal government could have offered to guarantee any loan that was needed to build a new bridge.
There are many ways that the life of the company could have been made difficult. I wonder how come our representative did nothing?
He will not get my vote on Nov. 27.
Yours truly,
Ron Helliar
