Old relic

Dear sir:
Well, well, well, the old relic bridge ain’t what it used to be, many long years ago. Sort of like the old gray mare, eh!
Hey! Only a few broken joints, and no one was hurt, but maybe the old bridge is sending a message. That message being that the old 1912 bridge is not sure it can handle two or three million more vehicles of considerably more tonnage.
Do we just fix the bridge and say there, there old-timer, we will keep you going for another 10 or 20 years, and/or wait until you send us another message–one that may cost lives?
Let us hope the latter will not be the case.
Now, not next year or the year after, is the time to start laying the groundwork for a new modern, attractive, safe, publicly-owned bridge and let the privately-owned one be used by the company in its business for which the bridge was built for in the first place.
The proposed new Customs building will neither give us a safe bridge nor will it solve the bottleneck bridge problem. The message is there–let’s listen and do the right thing.
Come to the meeting next Monday (Dec. 11) at 7 p.m. in the Fort Frances Civic Centre and voice your concerns. Thank you.
Respectfully,
Ron MacGregor,
Member, Citizens for a
New Bridge Committee
