Dear editor: On behalf of the parents and organizing committee of last weekend’s Fort Frances Bantam ‘A’ tournament, we would like to offer a big thank you to Carol and her canteen staff. Through the entire weekend, even before 8 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday, the canteen was open and […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear sir: I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped me when I was involved in a car accident on New Year’s Eve. Thanks to the off-duty firefighter who just happened to be passing and who stayed in the car with me until the ambulance arrived. […]
Dear sir: Calling all square and round dancers—past and present! The Eastern Manitoba Square and Round Dance Association is celebrating 50 years of dancing with a special evening of fun, friendship, and dancing on April 6, 2002. You are invited to join us for this 50th-anniversary dance party at the […]
Dear sir: The recipe featured on the Times’ Web site Jan. 4, 2002, re over-ripe banana bread, brought to mind a recipe my mother, Myrtle Muckle, used on many occasions during hot spells at the Pither’s Point pavilion in the 1930s. The bananas were purchased as a “tree,” hung from […]
Dear Mike: We would like to make people, parents of young children in particular, aware of the dangers of sliding near the water tower in the west end of town. This past Saturday, our three-year-old son nearly slid into the river, stopping only a couple of feet away on the […]
Dear editor: It was not long ago that provincial Finance minister Jim Flaherty announced a staggering deficit that would result in a five-percent cut to all government ministries. It is pretty clear the Tories are looking for reasons to further privatize education, health care, and many other social sectors. One […]
Dear editor: I am writing to you as a way of thanking the people of Fort Frances for their overwhelming kindness, and to update them on the progress my son, William Moody Jr., is making. William was born Nov. 29, 1993 with spina-bifida. To date, he has had 32 surgeries, […]
Dear sir: About two years ago, California decided to privatize its electric power system. They did not make sure there was enough cheap power available and when a hot spell of weather arrived, they could not operate all the air conditioning and power blackouts were commonplace. Finally, they bought power […]
Hello, this is “Rapid Robert,” the old guy with the plaid tam, writing again after a long dry spell. People give me trouble if I don’t write occasionally. My subject this time around is about the Emo hospital, “Care Close to Home,” the doctors who treat the patients, and the […]
I just wanted to write a quick thank you to the two students who did such a wonderful job painting the windows of the BIA office (front of Rainy Lake Hotel). Randi Caldwell and Tracy Treflin, both from Fort Frances High School, were willing to come on their own free […]
Dear sir: It started with the spirit of giving, a shoe box full of gifts, and $5 for shipping and you have changed the life of a child—at least for one Christmas. Many thanks are extended to all in our community, and throughout the district, who participated in “Operation Christmas […]
Dear sir: What is being done to protect people from second-hand smoke? Where does the responsibility lie? Do Canadians not have the right to expect clean air? With these questions in mind, it clearly deserves a response. The key to the issue surrounding second-hand smoke seems relatively simple—exposure to second-hand […]
