Dear sir: I feel a correction is in order. The bagpipe band that had participated in the Rotary Club’s Santa Claus parade here Nov. 24 was the Rainy Lake Highlanders. Shaw Cable reported it was the “Fort Frances Highlanders” in error. This correction is needed due to threatened legal action. […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear sir: I recently visited a family that has been riding an emotional roller coaster for close to a year. The father was diagnosed with cancer. He was off work for about eight months, during which time he had undergone a number of aggressive surgeries as well as radiation treatments. […]
Dear sir: Supporting “tour de Fort” since its inception has always provided me and my family with excellent performances through the years. Three year ago, I was thrilled to receive the attendance prize of a lovely gold chain donated by Mr. Ted Brockie. At last Saturday night’s performance, my passport […]
Dear sir: Now, let’s get this correct. The North Western Ontario Tourism Association (NWOTA) is in trouble because not enough tourists are coming to their camps. So to correct this problem, they want to make it easier for convicted drunk drivers to come to Canada. And the editorial in last […]
Dear sir: In the early morning of last Saturday, a fire occurred at our residence which consumed our travel trailer and extensively damaged the garage and its contents. The experience was horrifying for us but there is no doubt it would have been much worse if not for the competent […]
Dear Mr. Editor: It was with great disappointment that Atikokan Township council members read the negative comments written about Atikokan in the Nov. 14 edition of the Fort Frances Times by Harry Vandetti. Harry is entitled to his opinion when he refers to our community as a “sad place.” However, […]
Dear sir: Many items in the news in the past several years have prompted me to mumble to myself or to blurt out loud that I am going to write a letter to the editor. Well, something has finally spurred me to action. I have been silent too long. Actually, […]
Dear sir: With all the stresses, violence, and devastations we face daily, my most favourite time of the week is spent early Saturday morning, sitting by the fire in my jammies, with a hot cup of coffee and the “Wednesday” paper. My most favourite is the article Robin McCormick shares […]
Dear sir: Since this is the Year of the Volunteer, at a recent meeting of Meals-on-Wheels, board members all agreed that Fort Frances residents should be proud of the way in which the program is supported. This is the only place in Ontario that is wholly-supported by the community. Our […]
“Sparking an interest in fire safety early on in a child’s life can lead to a life-long appreciation for fire safety, and how it affects our daily lives!” The S.A.F.E. Baby (Smoke Alarm For Every Baby) program is one that’s in its third year in Rainy River District. The program […]
Dear sir, We would like to express our gratitude to all our friends and family in Fort Frances for their help, support, generosity, and affection since our father, Carl Domanski, passed away. We were deeply touched by the outpouring of kind thoughts and gestures. It was so heartwarming and comforting […]
Dear sir: With reference to your story concerning the dropping loonie, I have been a seasonal visitor to your country for the past 30 or so years. I have always been treated courteously at Customs and by the people with whom I have had contact while visiting there. One of […]
