Dear Mr. Behan: Our family was delighted to read the Centennial Edition which you recently published as a salute to the centennial of Fort Frances. What a splendid piece of work! We shall cherish it as a piece of local historical significance chronicling a great community. Thanks to you and […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.

Dear editor: In recognition of National Volunteer Week (April 27—May 3), I would like to express our gratitude to the many volunteers who dedicated their time and energy to the work of the Canadian Cancer Society. Thanks to our many dedicated volunteers, the Canadian Cancer Society leads the way in […]
Dear sir: Just an eye-opener to the big businesses of Fort Frances who are worried about Wal-Mart store coming to town. They are not going to hurt you at all, they are just going to make it easier for all the people of Fort Frances who go to Dryden and […]
Dear editor: Once upon a time, there was a Canadian fellow named Dr. James Naismith. Back in the late 1800’s, he came up with a simple game that is still quite popular today. It’s played in high schools and universities all across Canada. Also, it’s been an Olympic event since […]
Dear editor: I am one of a group of eight elderly citizens known as “The Sunset Seniors.” We just finished a tour of the area putting on skits to senior groups. These skits every year deal with issues that affect the elderly. This year’s program dealt with a skit on […]
Dear editor: Fort Frances’ 100th birthday went over big, as described in the local newspaper, but one item caught my eye that I could not quite understand, and that was the picture of two “voyageurs” raising their glass in a toast to France. If I read my history correctly, the […]
Dear sir: The old Fort Frances High School on First Street East is full of memories for most of our community, and can boast of producing students who’ve made their mark in society—Howard Hampton being a prime example. In its centennial year, do the citizens of Fort Frances want to […]
Dear editor: As the days grow warmer and the grass begins to turn green, we are reminded that spring has arrived. At Rainy River District Palliative Care, we are aware that while springtime can bring joy and excitement for many people, others find the change of seasons and special occasions […]
Dear sir: There is bill before the Justice Committee that, if passed, will gag free speech in Canada. Bill C-250 (formerly Bill C-415) has passed second reading and it is gathering momentum, as some provincial justice ministers have spoken in favour of it. The justice committee will be reporting back […]
Dear sir: This letter is in reply to Rob Sinclair and the International Fund for Animal Welfare’s demand that the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters pay back $1 million to the Ontario taxpayers. First of all, there are many, many Ontario taxpayers who feel the money was truly wasted […]
Dear sir: It seems that it is such a large problem to the board of education to dispose of a piece of property that is becoming an eyesore to the community. They keep saying there is no money to demolish old Fort High, but what happened to the money that […]
