Dear editor: I would like to thank the people who organized such a wonderful centennial celebration for the Barwick Community Church. It took a lot of planning and hard work. I especially enjoyed meeting old friends and former ministers. I was baptized in this church many years ago, so it […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear sir: In light of the recent Stratton centennial celebrations with the reunion of many relatives and former schoolmates of some 50 years ago, I recalled a traffic accident occurring to Ila Shannon in Fort Frances. Ila (or was it Eila?) was struck by a car while playing near a […]
Dear editor, I’m not sure if the town bought the property on the 600 block of Front Street to let the constructions companies use it or if they plan on venturing into another real estate deal. I do know it looked a lot better with the house sitting there on […]
Dear editor, My name is Britainee Whalen and at the beginning of the summer I was crowned Miss Fun in the Sun. I am writing this letter to express my gratitude toward the people who assisted me along the way. I would like to thank my mom for her sewing […]
Dear sir, The recent Stratton centennial celebration far exceeded our expectations. It was fabulous. A big bouquet of thanks is extended to the Stratton centennial committee as well as to all the volunteers who worked with great dedication and co-operation to make the centennial celebration such a success! All events […]
Dear editor: Just a quick correction/clarification on the article in last Thursday’s Daily Bulletin regarding Fort Frances town council. In the article “Hamilton to run for council,” I was mildly misquoted. Duane Hicks called me to ask a few questions regarding filing the nomination papers for town council and so […]
To the editor, I am writing to express my thanks to all of the volunteers who helped make this year’s Fort Frances Aquanauts Swim Team (FFAST) swim camp such a huge success. In only its second year, the two-week training camp already is building a reputation—attracting nearly 40 swimmers from […]
Dear sir: I would first like to congratulate Mike Allison and his family on the recent news of him being inducted into Northwestern Ontario’s Sports Hall of Fame. I could not think of a more worthy candidate. But Mike was much more than a hockey player. My sister, Cindy, who […]
Dear sir: To everyone who helped make the inaugural Rick Pearson Memorial golf tournament an overwhelming success. I am sitting here with a picture of Rick smiling out at me and a beautiful painting by Greg Bird hanging above, given to us by Tracy and Dennis Roach, and I am […]
Dear editor: Phase II of the Alberton road surfacing project has now been successfully completed with Bone, Stewart, Pihulak, and a second mile of Ducharme Road being surfaced. This will result in a significant savings to the taxpayers of Alberton over the years as it eliminates the need for summer […]
Dear sir: I was an employee at the Red Dog Inn for two-and-a-half years. Although I have not been there as long as my fellow employees, some 20+ years, the impact of its sudden closure is still just as devastating. How do you go on with your life as usual […]
Dear sir: Visiting Fort Frances from Phoenix, Ariz. during this centennial year, I was very impressed to read in the Centennial Edition of the Times (April, 2003) all of the articles on businesses and friends. But I was surprised when I read about the “ice business” not mentioning “Gosselin Bros.” […]
