Dear sir: Would you please give me the space in your paper to say thank you. To the Town of Fort Frances, the cemetery board, and the florists and workers who have both cemeteries in such beautiful condition. The flowers look the best I have seen in years. Also, the […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear sir: Following an article in last week’s Times, there has been much discussion about volunteerism in Chapple. I believe our community is very well served in this regard. Volunteers serve on our fire department, as well as committees for recreation, playground, Chapple Planning Advisory, rec. hall renovation, emergency planning, […]
Dear sir: I was an employee at the Red Dog Inn here for many years, yet I hear all the years that I worked there, and others, that we’re only getting out last wages and vacation pay. No severance pay or dismissal pay. Some people have worked there for 15 […]
Dear sir: Please accept this open letter to Premier Ernie Eves. As you are aware, Mr. Premier, global shifts, including changing technology within the forestry sector, combined with current U.S. trade tariffs and a world-wide soft market for paper products, have led to a downturn in the forestry industry across […]
Dear sir: Wow—wasn’t that a party. Congratulations Stratton! And a special thanks to all the organizers and volunteers. Without each and every one of you, Morley’s centennial celebration last weekend would not have been the huge success that it was! The entertainment was first-class, the hospitality second-to-none, and the suppers […]
Dear sir: I am seeking historical information and possibly photographs of a 1947 Packard Super Clipper four-door touring sedan automobile which I recently purchased and am restoring. The car was delivered to Wright Motors of Winnipeg, Man. in March, 1947. The earliest information I currently have is that it was […]
Dear sir: I’ve laid awake for an hour now so I will, at 2 a.m., write this. I am an over 40, six-foot father of five with scuba diving experience who is never (almost) at a loss in a tough situation. But a few hours ago, I came very close […]
To the editor: I find it interesting that a neighbouring community would not carry a story which affects well over 330 families in Dryden—the Weyerhaeuser layoffs of 330 union people and some staff members. The announcement was made on Tuesday, in time for your Wednesday paper which we get here […]
Dear sir: Congratulations to Carla Rogozinski and all the volunteers who helped out with this year’s Kid-Pro fishing tournament on a job well done. Also, to the businesses who donated all of the great prizes and participation gifts to the children; to the anglers who generously gave their time and […]
Dear sir: I wish to thank publicly Pam Hawley of the Fort Frances Museum and the members of the La Verendrye Parkway committee for erecting a plaque about the mercantile firm of Watson and Lloyd and Lloyd’s Tourist Emporium. The Lloyd Boat Line began in 1940 with the “Cascadia,” making […]
To the Editor: Correct me if I am wrong, is there not a bylaw in this town that prohibits riding bikes on walkways? If that is the case, then every person that does so is breaking the law. What is the point of spending time and money to put in […]
Dear sir: On June 28, at 2 p.m. in the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 29, veterans were awarded with a 50-year continuous service medal. On presenting this medal, Branch president Lance Halstead and awards chairman, Noris Piccinato stated what an honour it was for the legion to present this medal […]
