Clarifying column

Dear sir:
I left Fort Frances more than 40 years ago to join the navy and see the world, which I ws able to do.
During this time, I had the occasional opportunity to read the Times, which I delivered, along with the Daily Bulletin, about 50 years ago. I have always enjoyed your unique community-minded paper and look forward to reading it whenever I receive one from home.
After reading the Dec. 7 issue, I feel obliged to comment on the column, “Just Passing By.” In that article, it was written that one of my well-known brothers had stated I was the Canadian Navy’s most senior active member.
I do understand that my brothers are well-known in the district, however, I believe the comment was made by my younger brother, with good intention, who is approaching the golden years and may be prone to telling tall tales regarding my naval career.
To set the record straight, I am no longer an active member of the Canadian Armed Forces. After serving 35 years, of which 24 were at sea, I retired as a Chief Petty Officer 1st Class in 1995.
Although I have chosen to spend my retirement years near the sea in Halifax, N.S., I will always reflect on the years I spent growing up in the Fort, and will continue to call Fort Frances home.
