Dear editor, I would like to thank all the residents of Fort Frances who made donations to my walk to end breast cancer; your support has been overwhelming and greatly appreciated. With your support, I was able to raise $2,100 for the fight against breast cancer. I especially would like […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear editor, The biggest democratic deficit in Canada is the lack of opportunity for the electorate to change the government of the day. The success of a proposed merger between the Alliance and the P.C. Party will end the Liberals winning successive elections by default through vote splitting on the […]
Dear Mr. Behan: Many rumours have circulated, and many references to the RiverWalk Condominium building have appeared in the columns of your newspaper. Recently, it appears the subject has become a hot topic in the upcoming municipal election. Unfortunately, much of what has been written and what is rumoured dwells […]
Dear editor: I served 15 years as a volunteer firefighter and emergency responder in our district. I was amazed at how many residential fires I attended—and no working smoke alarms were present. According to an article in last Friday’s Daily Bulletin, 25 percent of the 97 homes checked by the […]
Dear sir: I am a candidate for council in Fort Frances and last week’s article that appeared in the West End Weekly about the Chamber of Commerce’s candidates forum is incorrect in one statement. The West End Weekly attributed the following quote to me: “Council will have to reduce services […]
Dear sir: With full knowledge of how our fishery has developed over my 57 years as a guide on the waters of Lake of the Woods, as well as many surrounding lakes and rivers, I know the highest targeted fish by anglers is the walleye. Without a doubt, it is […]
Dear sir: I was shocked at the local poll (#168) when the votes were counted last Thursday. Out of 344 eligible voters, only 143 took the trouble to vote. When I first came here, the same poll had a 90 percent turnout. I wonder what has happened during the last […]
Dear sir: The Tory strategy in many ridings across the province, including Kenora-Rainy River, has been to harp on the fact that the local MPP was not a member of the governing party. The Tory candidates have issued many dire warnings about the fearful consequences of not electing a member […]
Dear sir: I read with interest the obituary for Mrs. Elsie McLennan. My interest comes from my being a piano student of hers for seven years in Fort Frances. I often tell others of the recitals she held where her students were required to perform, the flowers that were always […]
Dear sir: I read with interest the editorial in last week’s Times, and found it to be informative and well researched. But one small item troubled me. It would be great if the phrase “to beg the question” was put to proper use, but as nearly as I can determine, […]
To the editor: On behalf of the Muskie Touchdown Club, I would like to thank the parents, relatives, and die-hard fans who have supported the football team over the past few years. This year’s team, like all the rest, is a fine group of hard-working, dedicated young men who love […]
Dear sir: More now than ever before, women must get out and vote. Our voices must be heard. As Status of Women Officer for the local OSSTF District 5B executive, I received information about election concerns and issues from the Ontario Federation of Labour Women’s Committee. Here are some of […]
