Successful season

Dear sir:
Another successful soccer season has come to an end and I would like to take the time to reflect on the 2004 season.
The month of May brought about some big changes for our league. A new executive was voted in, a constitution—defining the league—was drawn up, and a female was allowed to play in the men’s division.
The annual “Ball Blast” earlier this month was, well, a blast. It ran smoothly, with teams participating from around the district, and saw both men’s and women’s local Gillons’ teams proudly take home the winning trophies.
Every year, insight is gained on how to make positive changes that are good for the league as a whole. A sign that the league is growing and evolving is evident in the championship results.
Two teams that have never before taken top honours were crowned league champs this year. Way to go, Taggs and Gillons’.
Myself and my teammates would like to thank everyone who was involved in making this season work: the players (for showing up and playing), the officials, the organizers, volunteers, and the executive.
A big thanks to Shane Beckett (and his patient wife), who accepted the challenge of president and spent many long, volunteer hours hard at it.
We had a fun season and can’t wait to get back on the field in 2005.
On a side note, let’s remember that a league—any league—is only as strong as its members!
Thanks for the space,
Tracy Petsnick
