Dear editor: It is not daily headline news but there is something happening within the Liberal Party of Canada. The party is getting ready to choose its new leader. Local delegates were announced late last month and will be travelling to a national gathering in Montreal on Nov. 29-Dec. 3. […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear Mike: On behalf of Riverside Foundation for Health Care and the “Just Imagine” campaign, we would like to congratulate and thank Bill Michl for his outstanding contribution to the campaign. Bill ran 60 miles from Rainy River to Fort Frances back on Oct. 20 to officially kick-off the “Just […]
Dear editor: In this fine country, countless animals are being gut shot, shot in the front quarters, hind quarters, and maybe many times on any parts of their bodies. They are being dragged through swamps, rivers, mud—any terrain you can imagine. These carcasses are being hung in trees, and in […]
Dear editor: With all those letters to the editor in the Nov. 1 edition of the Fort Frances Times, I was most impressed. I’ve been reading your paper since the early 1970s and can’t recall such feedback. People are “offended, speechless, saddened, giving up. . . .” Much of it […]
Dear editor: Nov. 6, 2006 was a very sad day. It was a sad day for Paul and Susan Peters and the staff at Sunrise Meats, who had their honesty and integrity maliciously challenged by certain individuals in Rainy River District. It was a sad day for the consumers of […]
Dear sir: As a former Fort Frances resident, I am shocked and disgusted. The current mayoral election seems to have brought the standard of level-headed conversation among many Fort Frances people down ten fold. For the past week or so, the Letters to the Editor regarding the aforementioned subject have […]
Dear editor: It was with great interest that I read Mr. Leschinski’s letter to the editor on Nov. 1 entitled “Honesty, integrity”? Is Mr. Leschinski a member of council? He alludes to, infers, and suggests that Mr. Avis is responsible solely for the town experiencing its worst years financially, that […]
Dear Mr. Editor: As a candidate in this municipal election, I was extremely disappointed in the cancellation of the all-candidates’ night to be held last Wednesday (Oct. 25). I wanted to place my views before the citizens of Fort Frances and offer them an opportunity to ask questions of us […]
Dear editor: As an advocate of open government, I am getting a little tired of all the accusations concerning secrecy and the cone of silence that apparently has descended over the Fort Frances Council Chambers. It is being played out as an intent to keep the public in the dark, […]
Dear Mr. Behan: As we approach the next municipal election, I would appeal to the citizens of not only Fort Frances, but also of Rainy River District and beyond, to take a moment and reflect upon the sacrifices made for us so that we have the opportunity to cast our […]
Dear Mr. Editor: As a senior officer of the Northern Action Group, I was very disappointed in the cancellation of the all-candidates’ meeting scheduled for last Wednesday (Oct. 25). I along with others planned on attending. I was very interested in listening to all of the candidates, hearing their views […]
Dear editor: There has been considerable miscommunication lately regarding the Rainycrest/Riverside amalgamation. As board chair, I would like to take this opportunity to set the record straight. Rainycrest board of management and Riverside commenced discussions in 2004 with regard to amalgamation or another form of working together in our district. […]
