Dear editor: About mid-June, my spouse was diagnosed with terminal cancer of the adrenal gland and lungs. Her family doctor in Thunder Bay had not given her a complete physical examination for three years—no CT scan, MRI, or X-ray. A more thorough blood test would have indicated the adrenal gland […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear Mr. Editor: There is a lot of talk these days about “global warming” or the updated term “climate change.” The “global warming” myth started around 40 years ago as a “Cold War” propaganda. The Soviets claimed the rocket exhaust from the big Saturn V rocket would “punch a hole […]
Dear sir: The big concern some have over uninspected, locally-grown, and butchered meat hanging with government-inspected meat is not a big issue. This has been going on for years! Really now, let’s think back, as far back as you can remember, just how long has this been going on? I’m […]
Dear editor: In response to the recent “landslide” election in Fort Frances, I would like to commend Mr. Onichuk on his three years as mayor. I believe he gave it his all, not only of himself, but all the time spent away from his own life, his family, and the […]
Dear editor: I’m writing about the problem we are having with the government in regards to beef that is inspected and uninspected. It was pointed out by another writer that wild meat, for some reason, seems to be exempt from inspection policies. We do not know what the deer, the […]
To the editor: My name is Edith Jacqueline Agnes Aungiers Rawlins, born to Salvation Army parents in Halifax, N.S. two or three years before the Great Depression. My parents came from Glasgow and from Middlesboro, Yorkshire. I was with five siblings, in the Salvation Army, in Truro, where we learned […]
Dear editor: If you don’t think your donation of blood makes a difference, please read this. I recently have undergone treatment for cancer and felt that because I have been a blood donor for several years, it was my duty to inform the blood donor clinic of this in case […]
Dear sir: Last Wednesday night, we were thrilled to attend a great performance, “The Comeback King Show,” featuring Daylin James as “Elvis.” Hats off to the skate park committee for bringing in such an excellent performance. We are very fortunate to have the Townshend Theatre, which allows our community to […]
Dear Mike: On Saturday, Oct. 28, the Fort Frances branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association was honoured with the Accessibility Award during the 11th-annual Chamber of Commerce business awards. This is a truly exciting award for us. Accessibility to a mental health organization means so much more than bricks […]
Dear editor: Fellow citizens of Rainy River District, this note is not to collect “brownie points” towards future situations with law enforcement. It is merely to present the facts as I saw and heard them. I am so relieved to have witnessed completely unbiased, professional, and non-threatening actions taken by […]
To the editor: I came to this district in 1948. I had a job with my brother at Nestor Falls, where he had a tourist business. He got his meat from a store in Barwick, both to sell and eat. I was surprised that the tourists liked the meat a […]
Dear Mr. Editor: Several years ago, my grandfather fell off the tractor he was driving and was trapped between it and the discs behind. He had an artificial leg and was unable to free himself or to stop the tractor. For three hours he was dragged around the field, which […]
