Dear editor: I have just finished my nightly walk along the riverfront with my dog. I cannot, for the life of me, understand why there are so many irresponsible pet owners that are not picking up after their dogs. Although my dog, “Lizzie,” is just a small dog, I still […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear editor: Living in Northwestern Ontario, we have become accustomed to some degree of decreased access to health care. We have a shortage of family physicians that often necessitates long wait times for appointments. We often wait for long periods, and travel long distances, to receive access to specialized tests […]
Margaret Ann Hudson Dear editor: The Rainycrest Auxiliary would like to say thanks so very much to Craig Sanders and his staff at the 364 Store for supporting our Nevada fundraising project, from his store’s opening in 1990 to its closing at the end of March, 2010—20 amazing years! The […]
Larry and Leila Loew Dear editor: Our names are Larry and Leila Loew. On Tuesday, March 23, leaving the Atikokan area on Highway 11, we were stopped by two young police officers. We thought we had done nothing wrong, and when they approached our truck, it was to inform us […]
David Fontana Dear editor: I have lived here in Rainycrest for a little over three years now and have yet to experience one meal that I was totally dissatisfied with. Keeping this in mind, I must give all the praise in the world to the Food Service manager for his […]
Shari Godin Dear editor: After reading the letters from Shirley Russell, June Caul, and Betty Sivonen, I feel that I also must speak up about the kitchen and food services at Rainycrest. I worked in the kitchen at Rainycrest for 22 years. I loved my job, cooking, the residents, and […]
David Kircher Dear editor: I have submitted the following to the Rainy River District School Board in anticipation of the board hiring a new director of education. The operating deficit of the Fort Frances High School account—$106,000 in September, 2006 and $175,000 by September, 2007—was covered with board funds. The […]
Kenneth J. Egan Dear sir: The headline in our local Fort Frances Times on March 10, 2010 read “Community effort key to doctor drive.” This was followed by a comprehensive article on a report by Geoff Gillon, for which he is to be commended. The “community effort” suggestion seems to […]
Betty Sivonen Dear editor: Just a few words to have my say about the meals at Rainycrest. I sure do agree with Shirley Russell’s and June Caul’s letters. We sure don’t need cold eggs for breakfast, or pork chops that are like a piece of wood, or mashed potatoes that […]
Dear editor: The 1st Fort Frances Sparks are asking people from across Rainy River District to join us on April 14 by wearing pink as a way to stand up and say “no” to bullying. Bullies are really bad. They make us feel sad and mad. Small kids, big kids, […]
June Caul Dear editor: Thank you for allowing me space to voice a great concern for our seniors. And a big thanks to Shirley Russell for lighting a fire under me to finally write to you and the public. If you were to walk into Rainycrest and read the daily […]
Wanda Barker Dear editor: I recently read in the Winnipeg Free Press the section entitled “Random Acts of Kindness,” submitted by readers, and thought wouldn’t it be nice to have our local paper committed to a section such as this so local readers could be encouraged by the positive that […]
