Barb Rousseau Dear Mike: It is with a happy heart that I say “thank you” to the residents of Fort Frances and surrounding areas for their continued generous support in making our annual coat drive such a huge success again this year. Our coat drive continues to grow every year. […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Ken Grynol Dear editor: As the work on the new public school gets into full gear, I will ask again: Will the Rainy River District School Board come clean and let the residents of this district know where and what has transpired to the missing funds from Fort Frances High […]
Mary Jane Pearson Dear editor: On behalf of the La Verendrye General Hospital Auxiliary, I would like to thank everyone for the overwhelming response to our fall tea. Without the willingness of the membership to volunteer many hours, it would not have been possible. The food and baking was superb, […]
Christa Little Dear editor: Oct. 18-24 is Canadian Foster Family Week, which is dedicated to honouring the challenging, yet rewarding, job undertaken by foster families in Rainy River District. Foster families are essential to the work that takes place at Family and Children’s Services, and without the constant care and […]
Directors of the Borderland Racing Association Dear editor: During Fan Appreciation Night on Sept. 12 at the Emo Speedway, the ambulance was called to leave on two different occasions during the racing program. Due to the high cost of having a dedicated ambulance, the Borderland Racing Association has had to […]
Michael J. Baranowski Dear editor: Yesterday (Oct. 20) was the deadline to decide whether the Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship will continue to operate or drop out. The Kenora Bass International was in the same predicament a few years ago, but was able to get a practically new committee. Hopefully, […]
Ken Grynol To Mike: As the finishing touches of road construction close to an end, I noticed that a local contractor was doing the sidewalks on the north side of Scott Street, and both sides east and west on the 500 block of Portage Avenue. This contractor is only doing […]
Douglas W. Judson Dear editor: Last week’s “news” column submitted by John Rafferty amounts to little more than manufactured truths and veiled hypocrisy. Without doubt, the accuracy of Conservative MP Dona Cadman’s mailing about Rafferty’s support of the long-gun registry must be upsetting to our New Democrat MP, but readers […]
Ruth Rogoza Dear Mr. Editor: Would the man (thief) who was seen taking away my cement donkey and cart from 1017 Portage Ave., and putting it in his expensive black Chevrolet Avalanche truck, please bring it back. If you can afford that expensive truck, you should be able to go […]
Friends of Animals Dear Mike: We would like to respond to JoAnne Formenek Gustafson’s letter to the editor in Friday’s Daily Bulletin regarding our phone line when she inquired about the abandoned puppy. Unfortunately, the Ontario SPCA no longer is servicing our area, which has resulted in an overwhelming number […]
JoAnne Formanek Gustafson Dear editor: I’m glad to hear the “Friends of Animals” once again is active in our community after having been silent for some time. The unfortunate reality is that pets often are abandoned, neglected, unwanted, and unappreciated. I strongly feel that all pet owners show spay or […]
Jack Elliott Dear Mike: Many of the benefits we enjoy from living in a small community are the direct result of the dedication and selflessness of community volunteers. Whether it is a major event like the recently-completed Rainy River Walleye Tournament or the Giant Pumpkin Festival, none of these would […]
