Dear editor:
It is unfortunate the chair of the Rainy River District School Board is not as familiar with the reasons for salary increases of administration as his counterparts at DSSAB and Riverside Health Care Facilities, Inc.
The increases reported in the April 14, 2010 edition of the Fort Frances Times edition include:
•26.7 percent over three years, or 8.9 percent per year, for the former Director of Education;
•27.27 percent over three years, or 9.09 percent per year, for the Superintendent of Education; and
•37.8 percent over seven years, or 5.4 percent per year, for the Superintendent of Business.
The chair of the Rainy River District School Board stated: “Our administration has got the same percentage increases as all the union staff. . . .” I understand the teaching staff had annual increases over the same period closer to two percent per year.
The chair also stated that “the responsibility goes along with the salary” to explain administration’s salary increases. Responsibility and accountability are exactly what we have been seeking and requesting, to no avail from this board and management.
Why did administration receive about four times the annual rate of increase than did the teaching staff, who are accountable and responsible to parents and the community?
Thank you,
David Kircher
