Dear editor:
I would like to clear up what I assume is a misunderstanding in a letter to the editor, entitled “Amazing effrontery,” by Rudolf K.F. Zeitlhofer.
Mr. Zeitlhofer errs in suggesting that [NDP candidate] Sarah Campbell has not held elected office.
In fact, Ms. Campbell sits as an elected member of the District of Kenora Unincorporated Ratepayers Association and as a democratically- and publicly-elected member of the Kenora District Services Board.
Both elections were held in conjunction with municipal elections last year.
Furthermore, Mr. Zeitlhofer seems to ignore the immensely valuable experience Ms. Campbell has gained by working hand in hand with [retiring MPP] Howard Hampton over the past six years.
Ms. Campbell also has an extensive community service background, having worked with a number of community groups, raising awareness of important issues and helping to make an immense difference in her community and across our riding.
Mr. Zeitlhofer may be within his right to feel his candidate of choice may have been maligned by another reader. But that does not give him the right to unfairly malign Ms. Campbell and use incorrect information in the process.
How we vote in this or any election is certainly a personal choice. For myself, I am choosing to vote for something other than the same tired, old parties, and voting for Ms. Campbell and the NDP.
Respectfully,
Marlene Thomas
