Dear sir: I returned from a sentencing at the courthouse earlier this week of a case which I have been following from a distance. I was appalled, disappointed, and saddened at the system which our society puts its trust. The person I am speaking of was charged with sexual assault […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear sir: This letter is directed to all northerners whether or not you have strong views regarding the cancellation of the spring bear hunt. Premier Mike Harris and company sold us out for votes, without a doubt. What is their next move? All of our hunting and fishing rights? Why […]
Dear sir: Let me begin by thanking you (the Times) for featuring an article in last Wednesday’s paper on the students working in the high school cafeteria as part of a Special Education program. It is always gratifying (especially for a teacher) to read an article about how well students […]
Sir: CBC Radio reported an astronomer working at midnight last Wednesday (Feb. 24) saw a very bright light in the sky that lasted for more than a second and a half. He thought it was a major meteorite. The police also got reports of the light from their officers on […]
Dear sir: I am writing about the Jamie Perlett case. I am a family member and am very upset at what I read in this newspaper. The coverage of this trial by Times reporter Mark Elliott was always about Brodsky and his defence. So readers of the Fort Frances Times […]
Dear sir: The Fort Frances Times claims it tried to spare the family a barrage of media inquiries in the Perlett trial. They sent their reporter on a limited budget to cover the trial and he came back with limited coverage of the trial, which was all in favour of […]
Dear sir: Premier Mike Harris, as all bullies do, picks upon the weakest members of society–those who he knows can’t publicly retaliate. In this instance it is teenagers, as a group. Never mind that 98 percent are reliable, honest members of society. Badmouth them all. Of course, welfare recipients are […]
Dear sir: I am writing on behalf of the Rainy River District Music Festival Association to thank all businesses and individuals who, so far this year, have generously contributed funds to the festival. Your help is certainly appreciated. This year, the F.W. Evans Scholarship, formerly awarded to piano students RCM […]
Dear editor: I would like to commend Kenora MPP Frank Miclash for his support of the spring bear hunt. It seems these days it is very difficult to get your local MPP to listen to their constituents. Mr. Hampton, are you listening? The sportsmen and women of “your” riding need […]
Dear sir: This is an open letter to the good people of Fort Frances–and in particular to the decent, kind-hearted person who found my little lost dog and returned her to me last Saturday. A few weeks ago, we were all shocked to read in the Times about an act […]
Dear editor: Last Wednesday, I went to Fort Frances to work on a pulpwood loader. While doing the necessary repairs, I broke off the bleeder valve. Any mechanic knows to replace it you need a special thread, which I did not have in stock. I went to several places in […]
Dear sir: Wake up all sportsmen, our hunting and fishing heritage is not alive and well! With the recent announcement on the cancellation of the spring bear hunt, I was compelled to write this letter. Our local sportsmen’s club remains committed to work closely with local MNR staff and biologists […]
