Offensive conduct

Dear sir:
On the weekend of March 19-21, the Fort Frances Atom rep team attended a tournament in Portage La Prairie, Man.
This tournament attracted 24 teams, four of which stayed at the same hotel and got along with each other very well, sharing all the amenities without an argument.
In one case during their stay, one of the hockey players from an opposing team had dropped his money from his pocket as he played a video game. Two of the Fort Frances players happened to find the lost money and turned it over to their coach, and the money then was returned to the player who lost it.
Now without this kind gesture, this child would have gone without for the weekend since his parents gave him the money for his stay because they could not attend the tournament.
Now it is too bad that all the coaches who attend could not act in the same manner. I refer to the coaches of the Brandon Wheat Kings Atom ‘AA’ 10s.
On Sunday, March 21, Fort Frances had to face off against Brandon in the ‘B’ semi-final. A very good game was being had by all players until the coach from Brandon decided to start to insult the players from the Fort Frances team.
Now let us all remember these players are aged 10-11 but this coach must not have realized this when he was leaning over the boards at the Brandon players’ bench and using expletives at the Fort Frances players.
Now I would like to point out that one of the players he was insulting is the exact same person to which I spoke of in my first paragraph so who is supposed to be the grownup here.
The reason I found the need to write this letter is I am hoping someone will take action and discipline the coach responsible. The coach’s name is unknown to me but I am sure not only does he know who I talk about but also the Manitoba Minor Hockey League could easily find out his name.
I also would like to see the Ontario Minor Hockey League address the issue.
It is understood that things can get very tense in playoff situations but insulting little kids is not the way to do it. This is why referees are put on the ice.
Thank you,
Wallace R. Bruyere Jr.
