Dear sir: Forty-one years ago, five hockey team members from Fort Frances experienced the same feelings of “bitter disappointment” and “the agony of defeat” as did Rustyn Dolyny when his team, the Michigan State Spartans, lost in the semi-finals of 1999 NCAA tournament earlier this month. The four players were […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear editor: This is in reference to the announcement in last week’s paper from the Progressive Conservative government. The PC government has cut almost $2 billion from the province’s schools and now decides to put $10 million back in because there is an election coming. This is supposed to make […]
Dear sir: This is an urgent letter to the people of Fort Frances who care about the safety of our children, elderly, and anyone in need of a safe place to go when they need help. I am talking about “Block Parents” in our community. I started this program in […]
Dear sir: This short note is to praise one of your paper people–Jayson McFarlane! What a terrific person! Just a short bit ago, I was quite sick and laid up at home. Jayson would hand-deliver my newspapers to me just to check how I was doing! A very thoughtful kid! […]
Dear sir: On the weekend of March 19-21, the Fort Frances Atom rep team attended a tournament in Portage La Prairie, Man. This tournament attracted 24 teams, four of which stayed at the same hotel and got along with each other very well, sharing all the amenities without an argument. […]
Dear editor, I am writing to express my disappointment with the lack of coverage received from our local media with respect to the recent “Walk My Red Road II” HIV/AIDS conference. I am an employee of the United Native Friendship Centre and am one of the five people who organized […]
Dear editor: Would you please help me in my efforts to locate the band members from the 1960s high school band, “Flight VI.” The members of the band were Laurie “Herf” Stewart, Rob McVey, Tris Trethart, Terry Perkins, Dave Chapman, and Rick Benson. It would be helpful if I was […]
To the editor: I’m Bob Cottam, they guy with the plaid tam that you see on occasion and who contributes to the Times occasionally. Some time ago, a friend of mine gave me a clipping entitled “What is a customer?” Having operated a business, namely Red Deer Lodge at Nestor […]
Dear sir: This is in response to your column, “The plot thickens,” in last week’s Times. I believe this article to be a direct attack on my father, Glenn Witherspoon. Mr. Behan, with your “plot twists,” you make unfair accusations about my father’s character and integrity. The inside story is […]
Dear Mike, The editorial in the March 3 edition of the Times suggested starting a party of like-minded northerners. “With a block of MPPs, we’d have some clout then, right?” Yes, we would, if they truly represented our northern views. In fact, we’ve had a block of MPs and MPPs […]
Dear sir: According to the article, “Impact of lake levels on river uncertain,” in the Times last Wednesday (March 10), there is a proposal to lower the lake level of Rainy Lake by more than a metre starting this spring. In the whole article, there was nothing to suggest positive […]
Dear sir: We wish to take this opportunity to thank the Fort Frances Times for all the positive coverage of the “Youth-at-Risk” program. We have enjoyed working with the students, both in the classroom component and the training placements. The abilities and commitment of the students to learn and develop […]
