Candidate misquoted

Dear sir:
I am a candidate for council in Fort Frances and last week’s article that appeared in the West End Weekly about the Chamber of Commerce’s candidates forum is incorrect in one statement.
The West End Weekly attributed the following quote to me: “Council will have to reduce services and make major tax increases to get back to financial health.”
I had read from a prepared speech and what I said was, “The reserve fund must not be increased by reducing services and major tax increases. The average income home owner and seniors on fixed income pay more than enough in taxes.
“The incoming council and department heads will have major difficulties to handle.”
The statement in the West End Weekly is damaging to my efforts to win a seat on town council in November’s municipal election.
I look forward to a retraction and the proper statement to be printed in a conspicuous part of the West End Weekly newspaper.
Thank you in advance.
Signed,
L. “Gus” Lindberg
