Dear Mr. Behan,
Having listened to some of the rhetoric regarding the River Walk Condominium, I feel obligated to correct some of the statements made by sharing relevant data with your readers.
To date, 20 units have been sold and are self-supporting. This will generate roughly $40,000-$48,000 per year in taxes to the Town of Fort Frances. When the remaining units are sold, the taxes received by the Town of Fort Frances will be about $64,000-$76,800.
Before the River Walk Condominium was developed, the Town of Fort Frances received minimum taxes on a piece of vacant property.
This property, to date, has attracted a number of new taxpayers to our town.
The River Walk Condominium has provided a new type of lifestyle for the people of Fort Frances and anyone willing to make Fort Frances their home. It is my opinion that this condominium represents the best new home value in Northwestern Ontario.
It is located within walking distance of shops, churches, the library, hospital, and medical centre. It is just a short drive to a number of golf courses, and its locations on the Rainy River provides the residents with ready access to Rainy Lake.
From the current interest being shown, I am optimistic the vacant units soon will be sold. Each time a unit is sold, the mortgage is reduced, mortgage interest decreases, and the new owner takes over and becomes a town taxpayer.
Yours truly,
Betty Fontana
Fort Frances, Ont.
