Dear editor: As the leader of a remote First Nation community, I recently attended a remote energy forum to discuss the challenges and issues facing First Nation communities across Northern Ontario with respect to hydro generation. In attending this forum, it struck me that an important point is being overlooked […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear editor: I hope the committee that was formed hasn’t given up on the idea of looking into the possibilities on separation just because southern Ontario threw us a few tidbits. What happens the next time they want to ignore us. Start this process all over again? We have a […]
Dear editor: Thank you for the opportunity to express my views on the tough choices that are needed for Ontario’s future power supply. Possibly, our present collective thought flow is too ill-defined. We cannot tell if it’s wrong or if it makes sense. For example, when meeting Canada’s other premiers, […]
Dear editor: In response to the letter to the editor in last week’s Times entitled “Policy not working” as submitted by Mr. Ken McDonald of Stratton, Ont. I recently became a subscriber to this newspaper and must admit I was a little taken aback by the letter. Having read some […]
Dear editor, On June 1, the Smoke-Free Ontario legislation comes into effect, banning smoking in all enclosed workplaces and enclosed public places. It begs the question: Will it be against the law for a trucker to smoke in the cab of his 18-wheeler while driving in the province of Ontario? […]
Dear editor: Please allow me to respond to Jessie Zhang’s study on immigration that was outlined in last Wednesday’s Times. She states that “most of these immigrants go to our large cities and an actually having a lot of problems.” Now isn’t that a shock! We think we can attract […]
Dear Mr. Editor: Language is the tool to express/communicate our thoughts so we may understand each other’s volition. Noah Webster and his Webster dictionary are well-known to most, but this statement of his may not be: “The bastardization of the English language is the greatest crime against the English-speaking people.” […]
Dear editor: The 2005 “Mitts For Kids” campaign was another success. We filled 200 Christmas hampers for the local Salvation Army, and since there were mitts left over, several schools in the Fort Frances area, as well as Devlin, received “mitt kits.” I personally would like to take this time […]
Dear sir: Town council has been very quiet on issues surrounding the Fort Frances Clinic purchase and the move to a Family Health Team concept of medical care. Where is council on this subject? We know the Sault Ste. Marie-based GHA dropped out because they believed (as we did) that […]
Dear editor: Re: the letter in last week’s Times concerning taxes on cigarettes and alcohol going into a general fund. If the government had a surplus in the area of health care, they wouldn’t have any reason to keep increasing taxes on these two items. They are smarter than we […]
Dear editor: Have you been watching CNN and all the wrong decisions made during and after Hurricane Katrina last year? The governments on both sides of the border don’t seem to have a problem collecting donations, but always seem to neglect to come up and keep promises. They did say […]
Dear editor: Please allow me to take issue with the last two sentences in last week’s “Publisher’s Pen.” I recall that this newspaper last year published a very derogatory cartoon of the new Pope within weeks after he was elected. “Accurate and truthful?” You must be kidding. The media today, […]
