Dear editor: Re: All the hub-bub about getting a candidate to fill the vacancy left by a former council member’s resignation. I wonder why you could not use good common sense and take the next-highest candidate from the last election, which I understand would be Mr. Perry. Do you have […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear editor: I would like to commend Bill Krukoski on his letter to the editor printed in the Fort Frances Times on Oct. 17 regarding a byelection to fill the vacant council seat. I, as a taxpayer, agree with Bill 100 percent. I was at a social function on Oct. […]
Dear editor: I am very disappointed with our current town council regarding its decision to hold a byelection to fill the vacant seat. They claim that the results with regard to Ken Perry, the seventh-place finisher in last November’s election, may not be accurate because not all ballots had six […]
Dear sir: Oct. 21-27 is Canadian Foster Family Week. This week is dedicated to honouring the difficult, yet rewarding job done by foster families in Rainy River District. Foster families are essential to the work that takes place at Family and Children’s Services. Without the constant care and commitment these […]
Dear editor, The topic of Bill Krukoski’s letter in the Oct. 17 issue of the Times has me upset also. I was apathetic enough to forget about this byelection—this $20,000 would not raise my taxes too much. What makes me upset now is I must vote again. I thought we […]
Dear editor: There has been a discontinue of busing on Christie Avenue North due to safety concerns raised by the school bus drivers. As concerned parents, we strongly disagree since the end of our street is big enough for fire trucks, snowplows, garbage trucks, and other service vehicles to turn […]
Dear sir: I am writing in response to Dianne Griffiths’ letter published in the Wednesday, Oct. 10 edition of the Fort Frances Times, in which she outlines her concerns regarding the limited availability of hearing health care in the district. Ms. Griffiths states that as a result of the closure […]
Dear Mike: After reading last week that former Mexico president Vicente Fox confirmed a U.S.-led plan to implement a unified North American currency (the “Amero”), I fear that Canada is going to lose its sovereignty—one piece at a time. And, under the Harper government, it’s being done without anyone telling […]
Dear editor: I was very disappointed Saturday morning to walk out into my front yard and find that someone had taken a large cement frog. This frog had been sitting on a large rock for the last two years without incident. It is quite heavy, and would have required a […]
Dear Mr. Editor: I am so angry and frustrated with the members of town council and the stupidity exercised in their wisdom to call a byelection, at a cost to exceed $20,000, when it is not necessary. Council’s reasoning for a byelection fails when they use the argument that many […]
Dear sir: I am writing as a concerned citizen of the Kenora-Rainy River District about the limited availability and future of hearing health care in the district. My question to local MPP Howard Hampton: What is the provincial government prepared to do to preserve or enhance the existing services provided […]
Dear editor: The ballot for the provincial election will include a referendum question on the proposed new voting method to be used in the province. As important as the election is in determining who will run the province for another four years, perhaps the referendum question is of even greater […]
