Dear editor: I would like to thank the persons who nominated us (Super 8 Motel) for the Chamber of Commerce’s Customer Service Award. It is greatly appreciated and an honour to receive this award. Customer service is an important part of every business, and we learn daily how we can […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Hearty thanks Dear Mr. Editor: On behalf of the Meals-on-Wheels committee, I would like to extend a sincere “thank you” to each and every one of our many volunteers who deliver the meals. This thank you also is extended to the staff at Rainycrest, who prepare the meals and pack […]
Fort Frances has been fortunate so far to have been spared the worst of the forest industry crisis that has affected so many other communities across the region. But news last week that Buchanan Forest Products is shutting down four sawmills, including Atikokan Forest Products in Sapawe, until late January […]
As a Goshen College student, one of my favourite haunts was the soda shop a few blocks away. And when I had enough spending money, I ordered the house specialty—a sundae in a tall glass loaded with toppings and crowned by a cherry. Although my home was 700 miles away […]
Dear editor: When I read in this newspaper several weeks ago that our town council was going to call for a byelection to fill the vacant seat on council, I was as shocked as the rest of our citizens were. I wasn’t disappointed that I didn’t get the position; rather, […]
Dear Mr. Editor: I never thought for one moment I would be writing another letter to the editor on the topic of replacing Coun. Tannis Drysdale, but lo and behold, I am. What is wrong with our council? Why do they ignore the same taxpayers who put them in office? […]
Dear Mike: It is with a happy heart that I say “thank you” to the residents of Fort Frances and surrounding areas for their generous support in making our annual coat drive such a huge success again this year. It continues to grow every year and, therefore, we will continually […]
What a dilemma! Spend $20,000 for a democratic byelection or appoint someone who lost in the last council election. My suggestion is to hold the byelection and hope only one person runs. Acclamation—that should please everyone.
Dear editor: My name is Crystal Smith. I am writing to you because I am a very upset individual, and I would like to ask the parents of this community where your child or children were on the evening of Friday, Oct. 27 between 7 and 8 p.m.? Well, I […]
Dear editor, Re: Ontario HPV vaccination program. The studies of this vaccine (involving more than 20,000 women) show it is almost 100 percent effective in preventing infection with four Human Pappillomavirus (HPV) types, which are responsible for 70 percent of cervical cancer cases and 90 percent of genital warts. (Cancer […]
Dear editor: Fort Frances, what is going on? Our town council has deemed that rather than take the next runner-up to fill the vacant seat of Tannis Drysdale, they will put the town to the expense of another election. It would be necessary if the position had no one to […]
Dear editor: I would like to extend my congratulations and best wishes to the Hon. Michael Gravelle on his appointment as the new minister of Northern Development and Mines in the McGuinty government. Recently, the local paper mill in Fort Frances was provided provincial funding for the biomass boiler project […]
