Dear editor, Sorry for the passion expressed here, but I recently have been troubled by politics (as if that is considered a surprise) and feel compelled to write this letter. In the past several months, I have read article after article, editorial after editorial, and watched CBC news clip after […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear editor: I read in Monday’s Daily Bulletin an article about the Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce urging Fort Frances residents to “Keep your town in business,by keeping your business in town.” I am insulted that the blame is put on “the consumer” for lack of business in Fort Frances. […]
Dear editor: In growing up in this community, I have seen a lot of town-employed jobs lost to outside work. The Public Works department did all our water and sewer, road, curb and gutter, and sidewalk projects. The district contractors also were relied upon. Unfortunately, there are too many to […]
Dear editor: Again I would like to express my opinion and ask other frustrated taxpayers to do likewise. In my opinion, a front page article in a recent edition of the Daily Bulletin, clearly places and expresses, in campaign style, the name of the star candidate the town hall prefers […]
Dear Mr. Editor: On behalf of the members and staff of the Canadian Mental Health Association’s STEP Centre program, I would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to our winning first place in the 50th-annual Christmas parade. We had a phenomenal float committee who worked for […]
Few people in Fort Frances better epitomize volunteering than Dr. Robert Lidkea. His 55 years of service since arriving here in 1952 has spanned many facets but always with one overriding goal in mind: to make life better for our town and its residents. His choice as “Citizen of the […]
Dear editor: Something happened at Clearwater Lake recently that has me thinking about different types of people. As my husband and I boated across the lake to our cabin this past Saturday, I was astounded to see a stump where a landmark white pine used to stand. The massive seed […]
Dear editor: As the days grow shorter and weather turns colder, we are reminded that the holiday season is getting near. The Rainy River District Palliative Care Volunteers are aware while the holiday season can bring joy and excitement for many people, others find this season bring sad memories and […]
Dear Mr. Editor: I would like to thank Mr. Ken Grynol for his recent letter to the editor. Each and every person who has a view on the subject of decisions made on our behalf by town council should be writing letters to the editor. I am also happy that […]
Dear editor: Last Tuesday morning, Nov. 13, our 10-year-old Golden Retriever became lost in the bush near Nickel Lake and later was seen on the highway. Over the next four days, many trips by family and friends failed to located him. Many folks travelling in the area were aware and […]
Dear editor: I read the letters of Dianne Griffiths (Oct. 10/07) and Brenda Tullio (Oct. 24/07) and feel they are putting the closure of the Fort Frances Canadian Hearing Society on one agency. Since the closure resulted in two job losses, one being mine, it is time for me to […]
Dear editor: In response to the $20,000 byelection for a successor to fill the empty councillor’s position, I’m sure most taxpayers would agree that Ken Perry should be in line to fill it. Next up, Tannis Drysdale was a good councillor. She stood up for the people who put her […]
