Dear sir: As you are aware, the Lions Millennium Park was dedicated to the people of Fort Frances on July 8 by the Hon. Robert Nault, minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Developments, local MPP and NDP leader Howard Hampton, and Mayor Glenn Witherspoon before a large crowd of citizens […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear Mr. Behan: Truly, the best part of any reunion anytime is getting together with friends and loved ones, sharing old memories, and just having the pleasure of coming back to our old home town. I experienced all of the above–and revelled in it. It was evident that a lot […]
Dear editor: Yeah, it’s Rapid Robert again. The old guy with the plaid tam. I do a lot of driving, and have done a lot of driving over my 77 years, and courtesy and politeness never leave my mind. Remember when our mums and dads used to instruct us, “Now […]
Dear editor: This letter addresses comments made by Mike Baranowski (“Fishing is for the birds”–July 19), Lyle Armstrong (“Cormorants cause headaches for area cottagers”–July 19), and Allan Kielczewski (letter to the editor–July 26). First, each one claimed cormorants consume large quantities of sport fish. Studies have repeatedly shown, however, that […]
Dear editor: I lived in Fort Frances most of my life until we moved to Vancouver Island. I have never seen such beautiful graveyards as those in Fort Frances. When we travel to go home to Fort Frances, we pass a lot of graveyards and they look so dim and […]
Dear editor, We applaud John Nelson’s letter to the editor concerning cormorants on Rainy Lake, and wildlife in general. The attitude that fish stocks exist for, or are only the property of, humans is both a senseless and absurd point of view. Many different predators, and prey, depend on fish […]
Dear sir: The July 28 report on Ontario water treatment plant testing results by the Environment Ministry, following on the report by Environment Commissioner Gord Miller’s ripping account of government cover-up, demonstrates, without equivocation, that the Harris government, from the premier on down, has deceived the public, the same people […]
Dear editor, I would like to thank the Fort Frances Bass Tournament for letting us young anglers participate in the Kid’s Pro Bass Championship. I was lucky enough to fish with Mr. Barnard and we had a great time. All of the kids I talked to had lots of fun […]
Dear Editor: Two recent articles about cormorants prompt this letter. Both give one individual’s view on the effect of these birds on fish populations. Certainly these birds eat some walleye, bass and maybe even some trout. But so what? This is only a problem if you view the fish population […]
Dear sirs, After reading the July 5 edition of the Times, and the MNR report on cormorants, I was wondering how the MNr was going to get by with all the damage done our thousands of cormorants. I once read in the paper where cormorants eat upwards of one pound […]
Dear sir: I attended the Thursday, June 28 town council meeting as an observer on the latest plan for a new Canada customs facility. Town council approval of this plan was the agenda. It came as a shock to hear from a Canada Customs rep. that planning for the facility […]
Dear sir: I read the story about the new hotel in the newspaper. I don’t think that we need a new hotel because we have many hotels/motels now. Plus, it might force some of our current hotels/motel out of business. Then, what would the owners do without a business–a business […]
