Dear Mr. Editor:
It’s time for a change.
Would you please consider an Arts and Entertainment section, or at the very least a calendar of events listing for the newspaper.
We are all very proud of what we do, please show us some respect! Nothing irks me more than to see a beautiful photo of a pianist between an article on ‘bull castration and genetically altered food (as per last month’s paper).
Never would you see, for example, a man holding his prized fish between a funeral obituary and a Victorian tea article!!
We have a beautiful new auditorium, two fantastic art galleries, one community orchestra, numerous church and community choirs, a very top-notch high school band and music programs, one theatre company, one pipe band, numerous book authors, world acclaimed artists, numerous professional musicians, one music festival, three dance studies, square dance clubs, talent contests, school musicals and play productions, art clubs, a musicians’ association, wood carver clubs, dinner theatre productions, ongoing art workshops, craft shows, recitals, museum and library events, concerts, book sales, First Nations cultural events (pow-wows included), numerous bands, social dances, and last, but not least, the incredible collection of arts and entertainment organizations across the river.
Even half this list demands some attention. I can almost guarantee that groups listed above would gladly submit articles and buy advertising space if we knew it was in a place with respect!
