Dear sir:
Well, it’s been a long winter with lots of snow and our share of cold weather. But like a lot of other folks, as a way of passing time, I like to get out there and do some walking.
I always take along my camera along just in case I might see a nice scenic sight that my wife would like to paint. But what I see mostly is dog doo-doo that these nice dog owners leave behind.
Now I am sure the thought, while waiting for your pet to finish its business, is, “Oh well, it will be frozen soon” or “I know it will snow tomorrow and no one will see.”
Then there are the drive-bys—yes, the ones that do the Pither’s Point Park drive. They let their pet out while, in some cases, staying in their warm vehicle.
This must be well-known with the dog owners as, on one walk, I saw a truck with a Manitoba licence plate there. The only time this person got out of the truck was to yell at the dog because it must have been time to leave.
Hello—we do expect spring to come to Fort Frances, soon to be followed by summer uncovering all these mounds of dog doo-doo. Which, at this time after sitting in the hot sun, heaven forbid should a nice dog owner happen to step in.
So I do hope our mayor holds to his promise (that is, to be on the lookout for these nice pet owners that do carry along a plastic bag to retrieve what their retrievers leave behind).
And not just to pick on dog owners, let’s not forget those people who get a coffee to go so they can roll up the rim. When it’s all gone, just carry it with you until you come upon a garbage container.
Now, for all you that carry your plastic bag, or hold onto that coffee cup or pop can until you arrive back home, have a nice walk.
Signed,
J. Richards
Fort Frances, Ont.
