< B>Dear sir: In many of our small towns, and even in our larger ones, the railway station was long the hub of activity. We went there to listen to news wire, to meet other townspeople, or to hang around waiting for the next train. We greeted long-lost relatives, and […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear editor: I realize I am probably wasting my time writing this but I feel that I must get this off my chest or be very angry at the “Ice for Kids” program. When I first heart of this program, my kids were younger and very much into hockey. I […]
To the editor: At the council meeting Monday night, Coun. Dave Bourgeault questioned S/Sgt. Hugh Dennis as to whether anything could be done to help the kids hanging out around the pool hall. These kids complained of having nothing to do. It should be pointed out that Mayor Witherspoon’s councils […]

To the editor: On Dec. 27, a social took place at the Memorial Arena. In spite of weeks of signage around the area and advertisements on Channel 9, in the Fort Frances Times, and on CFOB, the event was far from a success. This event was organized to raise funds […]

Dear sir: As a follow-up to my letter in last week’s Times, here are several points I’d like to make with regards to the meeting of the arena user groups held earlier this month: oIt was likened to a game of charades. Nothing could be changed to accommodate the users […]
Dear sir: The second-annual ice fishing derby is scheduled to take place in March. It was advertised as promoting business in the community of Fort Frances but there are businesses that have not been paid for last year’s services. It is difficult to support an event that has not paid […]
Dear sir: With regards to the meeting of the arena user groups, here are several points I’d like to make: oIt was likened to a game of charades. Nothing could be changed to accommodate the users because all decisions had been made previously, unilaterally, by the town. oThe chairman should […]
Dear editor: We are writing this letter to warn your readers that, when buying over-the-counter medication, to check the expiry date both on the outer packaging and on the container inside. Recently, after purchasing and using a common cough medication for a period of time without it being effective, the […]
Dear sir: I have been following the actions of town council with regards to the new ice facility since former Coun. George Blanc told “Ice for Kids” representatives and town citizens to raise $500,000 so a two-sheet facility could be built using the Dakota (St. Vital) building as a model. […]
Dear Mr. Editor: Your paper last week carried the obituary for Don McNabb, and I noticed it mentioned the fact that for some time he trucked milk to Kenora. I would like to elaborate a little on this part of his life. This was in his younger days, in fact […]
