Dear sir: Last week, I had the pleasure of being a small part of the Rainy River District Music and Drama Festival. I would like publicly to commend the participants, the organizers and volunteers, and the teachers and parents involved. I think it a credit to the community that such […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear sir: Regarding the “How to” prepare festival entry articles, I only collect the information from various people in our community. I think that children can be helped by being exposed to different approaches to solving problems. When local music or drama teachers share their approaches, children benefit from ideas […]
Dear editor: I feel it is important to respond to recent concerns about the “Lands for Life” planning process and the mining industry. There are many strong feelings about the “Lands for Life” discussions and the comprehensive planning process for our Crown lands. This is not surprising. It is a […]
Dear sir: Hopefully, you will find space for these lines, written by a relic from the past. If my English seems somewhat stilted, it is because I have now been living in Norway for more than 50 long years. In spite of the great time lapse, I still cherish fond […]
Dear sir: This letter to the editor is an apology that I make to anyone that I may have offended at the Emo fish fry last Friday night. I did not go ahead of the line of customers intentionally but did not know, and was not informed, that people were […]
Dear sir: I have forwarded the following letter to Chris Hodgson, the Minister of Northern Development and Mines. Dear Mr. Hodgson, I listened with disbelief as I heard the announcements that you, and your government, are considering substituting slot machines for VLTs in charitable gaming clubs. I believed the announcement. […]
Editor: I would like to use your letters column to publicly thank everyone who has expressed their love and concern for my son, Lantana Wind Dancer, whose story was told in last week’s Fort Frances Times (“Toddler survives dog attack”). I’d thank all in person but there are so many […]
Dear sir: I am a local trucker from the west end of the district, and after reading the Crime Stoppers report in your March 25 issue, I was totally disgusted. I don’t think offering a reward to someone to turn in an individual who’s paying taxes (fuel, licences), and trying […]
Sir: Is Howard Hampton confused or incompetent? On March 21, 1998, he stated in the Thunder Bay Chronicle-Journal, on page 4, that “New hospitals are reserved for the wealthy 905 suburbs around Toronto where the Tories get the greatest percentage of their votes.” How can he possibly say that when […]
Dear sir: This letter is in response to the announcement in Monday’s Bulletin, “Infant death investigated.” First of all, the way this comes across to some people is harsh. Maybe whoever wrote this report up should stop and think of the families involved before they decide on their headlines. Secondly, […]
Dear sir: This past weekend, March 20-22, Tom Thumb minor hockey held a tournament in Fort Frances. The Times Tigers won the “A runner-up.” We’re proud to come in second out of 14 teams. The Tigers would like to thank the following people for their tremendous support during this tournament […]
Dear sir: Once every five years, the Fort Frances Bowling Club hosts the Sunset Country 5-Pin Bowling Aggregate Tournament, where six teams from each affiliated community compete for the coveted aggregate banner. Even though the Fort Frances bowlers were defeated this year (let’s just say we were too busy hosting), […]
