Dear editor, If there ever was a time in this world when we needed something to cling to, it is now. With the corona pandemic raging around this world, we need a firm strong anchor to hold us steady. Society over the last several decades has deconstructed many beliefs we […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear editor, I noticed in your recent Times that Brad Hogan was retiring after serving our Fort Frances community for many years. Very quietly Brad has done some special things for folks, without anyone knowing about it. For many years he has been making either a corsage or a boutonniere […]
Dear editor, No paper this last week, as far as I know – at least none arrived in our Rural Route Mailbox this Christmas week. I have always appreciated the Christmas story printed on the Editorial page from the Gospel of Luke. Some other things that “sort of bothered” me […]
Dear residents of our health region, This year has been challenging because of COVID-19 – for parents, for small business owners, for essential workers, for everyone. We’ve dealt with a lot, but we have also shown how adaptable, resilient, and effective we can be when we work together for the […]
Dear editor, The Right Relations Circle of the Rainy River District would like to weigh in on the “Colonization Road” discussion. Although our group believes that the issue has raised some questions, we have also learned much that is important to the final decision. As to the process of changing […]
Dear editor, I would like to thank the person who found my wallet in the Canadian Tire parking lot on December 10, 2020 and turned it in to customer service with all contents intact. I sincerely appreciate your act of kindness and honesty. You have saved me so much grief, […]
This holiday season brings with it mixed and complicated emotions. It has been a year of challenges for all Ontarians. My thoughts turn to those who have lost loved ones, those who will be disappointed because they cannot celebrate with extended family members in person, those who will miss out […]
Dear editor, As I sit looking at the newspapers from the past few weeks it is apparent to me that a lot of learning is needed. Please be patient with me as I explain and share some of my own knowledge and opinions. First, let’s talk about racism. (I expect […]
Dear editor, I have been reading the discussion around colonization road with considerable interest. It makes me proud to be part of this community. It is clear that much thought has gone into so many of the letters published in the media. There is a lot of empathy for those […]
Dear Santa, My name is Damen Forbes. I am 7 years old. I want a new Xbox and I want a new remote that is golden and rainbow. I also want magnetic beads. I have been good. I hope I am not on the naughty list. From Damen Forbes. Grade […]
To gauge the reaction of the First Nations community regarding the Colonization Road name change debate, we hand delivered 200 flyers on Couchiching FN, and e-mailed copies to community leadership. We asked what the word colonization meant to them, whether the change would be meaningful, and asked for suggestions on […]
Dear editor, I write today to the council and citizens of Fort Frances about why it is crucial and necessary to change the name of Colonization Road. I write from my personal capacity, but from the lens of the work, I am doing as Chair of the City of Thunder […]
