Dear Editor, I am responding to the letters in last Wednesday’s paper written by Mr. Stewart and responded to by Mr. Judson. For clarity, I am not on Twitter. I must say, I was impressed with the letter by Mr. Stewart, calling out Mr. Judson regarding his Twitter feed comments […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear editor, We are responding to your letter about the proposed name change for Colonization Road. We have lived at our current address for close to 22 years. We are in full support of this change…it is long overdue! We think the new name should be in consultation with the […]
Dear editor, In reference to a proposed name change of Colonization Rd, I will start off by saying, “I don’t Care. There are many more pressing things to care about.” I have questions and comments that I am quite sure others have thought of also. Has the Town of Fort […]
Dear editor, On Wednesday, November 25th, the Times published responses to an opinion survey with regard to Councillor Judson’s motion to rename Colonization Road. Those surveyed were residents living on Colonization Road. Councillor Judson was evidently displeased with this display of public opinion, based on public statements made on social […]
Dear editor, What is really very important? As a Canadian citizen, I get angry and frustrated when I see the dialogue and effort being made to change names and deface and remove statues, when there are so many urgent and important issues to deal with. That about those dear Indigenous […]
Dear editor, I want to take some time to shed some light on a major issue in Fort Frances regarding Colonization road. It’s the fact people do not know why it should be changed. See, I grew up in systemic racism here in Fort Frances. Without realizing it, I was […]
Dear editor, When talking about immigration, the most frequent thing I hear is that people are largely okay with the idea, so long as immigrants are willing to adhere to our society’s values and laws. Some are fearful that immigrants are coming to Canada solely to impose their culture over […]
Dear editor, You have invited me to respond to Kevin Stewart’s letter about Colonization Road. Last week your newspaper ran a page of largely anonymous commentary on a sensitive issue, contrary to your own policy on letters and widely-accepted journalistic practice. The decision to do this served no apparent truth-seeking […]
Boozhoo nindinawemaaganag. Zaagategaabo nindigoo. Wazhazhk nindoodem. Mitaanjigamiing nindoonji. A few days ago, as I read comments on Facebook about the possible name change of Colonization Road, I was utterly disgusted at the number of ignorant remarks. So, I decided to ask Siri what the definition of colonization was. Siri answered […]
Dear editor, I am writing in response to your article summarizing the opinions of the residents of Colonization Road with respect to a proposed change of street name. The results suggest that many residents that responded to the survey stand against the proposed change as evidenced by the mostly anonymous […]
Dear editor, Colonization Road will be renamed, now or in the future, because of the simple fact that it is offensive and hurtful. I don’t feel any other reason is required. However I would like to address some of the discouraging responses I have read, particularly with regards to Councillor […]
Dear editor, Last week I was both surprised and humbled to receive a special recognition for the 2020 Citizen of the Year Award. Thank you to the Mayor, Council, and my nominators for considering me. In this letter I would like to add some details about the organization I was […]
