Dear sir: People in our community are complaining about how bad cigarettes smoke is for you and how bad second-hand smoke is for children and non-smokers. But I have a question that I would like answered. Why haven’t I heard any complaints about the mill? Please people, get real. If […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear sir: I am a snowbird and have just returned to Fort Frances, hence the delay in responding to Harry Vandetti’s “Just Passing By” column of March 6. First, I would like to thank Harry for showing sympathy to Israel in their war. Also, the mentioning of all the Jewish […]
Dear editor: Could you please put in the newspaper for people to pick up trash? All around Fort Frances and other places. There should be trash cans around the town. If there’s no trash can, bring it home and put it in the garbage. At the old high school, at […]
Dear editor: Build a new Customs facility, then have a traffic study? It certainly has a cart-before-the-horse ring to it. As most of you know, a traffic flow study before building the facility would have been more realistic. Of course, there would have been no need for a traffic study […]
Dear editor: I am writing in response to the Tetu sentencing in last week’s paper. I was shocked and appalled at how easy he got off. Ten years for manslaughter—and he can apply for parole in five. I think he got off pretty easy considering Deanna is serving a life […]
Dear editor: I was so shocked to read the news online about the sudden passing of our friend, Tony Beyak. I didn’t know how to send my condolences to his family so I thought I would do it, via online, through your newspaper. Lynn, I want to express my deepest […]
Newest concern Dear sir: According to your April 10 article, Michael Tetu will be eligible for parole in five years. This isn’t exactly the precedent you want to set in a town that is concerned about its lack of population growth. Unless, your goal is to create an influx of […]
Dear sir: I read the letters to the editor in regards to the smoking ban with great interest. I am a RN in a cardio-intensive care unit, and I see the results of what smoking does to our bodies and the withdrawals patients experience after surgery. Although there are many […]
Dear sir: On April 5, the headline on the front page of the Thunder Bay Chronicle Journal read “Lead Found in Drinking Water.” This was a news article about a Grade 7 student, Joe Frenette, who discovered—while working on his project for the science fair—that there was 0.03 mg of […]
Dear editor: I would like to say thank you to those who nominated and judged me worthy of receiving the Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce 2002 Business Award for Safety (individual). Unfortunately, I was unable to attend the dinner, but I am honoured and grateful. Thank you very much. Signed, […]
Dear sir: On April 7, while returning to Fort Frances from Arizona, I stopped to pay the toll on the U.S. side of the border crossing in International Falls. I handed the lady my commuter card to pay the toll and was told I still owed $4 for the utility […]
Dear Mr. Editor: Can you explain why the people who control the dam outflows are not responding to the IJC authorization (published on Jan. 28, 2002) to a reduction of the outflow to 63.7 cu. m/sec down from 103.4 cu. m/sec that is the “normal” drought stage outflow on Jan. […]
