Dear editor: The La Verendrye Hospital Auxiliary once again wishes to thank our community for their generosity during our “tag day” on Friday, May 16. There were close to 80 people who gave of their time and energy, plus many merchants willing to allow us to be on their property. […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear Mr. Editor: I have been concerned about the deer roaming the town eating the gardens and flowers. I know many enjoy seeing them, but last year they ruined my garden. This year, already they have eaten the tulips, which are a source of beauty. I hear from a neighbour […]
Dear editor: I am writing in response to the lowering of the Maple Leaf flag to half-mast. It was with interest that I read the letter to the editor by Richard Neumann Lt. (N) ret’d, headlined “Partisan motives,” which appeared in the April 30 edition of the Times. A motion […]
Dear editor: We read with great interest last week’s “From the Publisher’s Pen,” headlined Today’s libraries face challenges. In its 2006 strategic plan, the Fort Frances Public Library board recognized the fact that libraries are changing, and we are striving to enhance traditional services with new technologies in order to […]
Dear editor: I would like to congratulate Clayton Teeple and the staff of the Stratton sales barn on a job well done at the spring cattle sale back on April 26. Mother Nature threw everything she had at you guys and you came through with flying colours. Everyone involved should […]
Dear editor: During my absence from the area over the past two weeks, there has been a rumour circulating around town that I had resigned as chairman of the library and technology centre’s “Building for the Future” fundraising campaign. As well, there have been other rumours that I had resigned […]
Dear Mike: It was cancer that put a hole in my heart. When I lost my mother to cancer, I’m sure that’s when it happened. Before then, I don’t think I truly understood. You know, the sadness that comes from being “touched” by cancer—and the happiness that comes when people […]
Dear editor: I was playing fetch in my backyard with my two labs last Wednesday when I noticed my yellow lab stop to eat something a few feet off my property (against my neighbour’s garage). I called her, and she didn’t listen, so I ran over to get her. When […]
Dear editor: As a Conservative and former navy officer, I recognize that symbolism is important to Canadians, particularly when it is attached to those who give their lives in the service of their country. It was with particular interest that I followed the debate over the lowering of the Canadian […]
Dear editor: The British Columbia government is legislating the opening of 11 new provincial parks in celebration of Earth Day. The Fort Frances town council is determined to close one of ours down—to what end? (Signed), Wilf Sanders Fort Frances, Ont.
Dear editor: The J.W. Walker School Environmental Club would like to thank all organizations and individuals who registered their Earth Day clean-up with us. Many groups and individuals, who clean up every year on Earth Day, registered their clean-up with us this year. We also were able to encourage and […]
Dear editor: During National Volunteer Week, the Canadian Cancer Society would like to thank each and every one of its many dedicated volunteers in Fort Frances. Volunteers are at the centre of all we do at the Canadian Cancer Society. Without your tireless efforts and support, we would not be […]
