Dear editor:
I am writing in response to the lowering of the Maple Leaf flag to half-mast.
It was with interest that I read the letter to the editor by Richard Neumann Lt. (N) ret’d, headlined “Partisan motives,” which appeared in the April 30 edition of the Times.
A motion by Comrade Ed Haglund, and seconded by Comrade Bob Boland, of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #29 here in Fort Frances reads:
“Beginning Nov. 1, we will be lowering the flag to half-mast on the first Wednesday of every month in respect and honour for every active Canadian service personnel who is killed, wounded, or serving in hostile or peacekeeping operations on behalf of Canada.”
Br. #29 hopes that all Legions will do the same.
Signed,
R.M. Boland
Sgt.-at-Arms
Br. #29
