Tiffany Whalen Dear editor: Recently, the Youth Action Alliance was informed of its program funds being eliminated and the program being cancelled as of Aug. 31, 2009. The program started in June, 2005, and for the last four years it has taught many youth how to advocate and create change […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Darcy Banman Dear editor: It is with great appreciation that I write this letter. Back on March 16, The Bargain! Shop kicked off our third-annual Paper Egg campaign with Easter Seals Canada. Nationally, we set a goal to raise $200,000, which was to be achieved by donations from The Bargain! […]
Jacquie Csik Dear editor: The La Verendrye Hospital Auxiliary would like to take their hats off to the businesses and generous citizens of Fort Frances once again. Without the support and donations that you generously gave to us on Friday, May 15, our “tag day” would not have had the […]
Barb Gustafson Dear editor: A few words from an irate senior who was ticketed on Tuesday, May 12 while attending the funeral at St. John’s Anglican Church. I, too, went to the town hall to protest this ticket. Does the bylaw officer go down the street for every funeral at […]
Bill Krukoski Dear editor: In reflection of town council’s bylaw to fine town residents who feed deer, I wish to make the following comments: 1. Why council’s decision is wrong is it places absolutely no common sense or thought in their actions other than to say you feed deer, you’re […]
Pat McPherson Dear editor: Of all the letters submitted to the editor by Bill Krukoski and Allan Bedard, all the petitions and meetings they have attended, plus sharing their concerns many times to council, it seems to me they are getting nowhere fast. Before I continue with this letter, I […]
Tim Woods Dear editor: Isn’t it humbling to know that in this little town of Fort Frances, the past is so much more important than the future! While we remain unable to raise enough to build a new library and technology centre, it is entirely possible to spend a million […]
Nancy Westover Dear editor: We would like to express our dismay over parking tickets issued to guests attending the funeral of my father, Chuck Westover, at St. John’s Anglican Church on Tuesday, May 12. Given the heavy rain as guests were arriving, the fact that Victoria Avenue was blocked south […]
Frederick R. Lowry Dear editor: On Tuesday, May 12, we drove from Winnipeg to attend a funeral at St. John’s Anglican Church. We managed to find parking in front of the library, however, our daughters drove straight ahead and parked with other vehicles further down Church Street. There were a […]
Douglas W. Judson Dear editor: Yet again I find myself compelled to offer critical praise for the stirring dramatic exploits of John Rafferty and Co., now in their seventh month of fabrication. In this latest episode of New Democrat deception, our lead male, Mr. Rafferty, blatantly defrauds the electorate about […]
Elsie Hampton Dear editor: I am writing with regard to recent changes made to the Northwestern Health Unit’s audiology program. In the April 15, 2009 edition of the Fort Frances Times, an ad from the Northwestern Health Unit stated: “On May 15, 2009, the Northwestern Health Unit will discontinue hearing […]
Carol and Dick Lyons Dear editor: The following is an excerpt from a news item in the May 7, 2009 online edition of the Toronto Globe and Mail: A gift from a cultural philanthropist family, Bluma Appel Community Trust, was announced by the Toronto Public Library as it kicked off […]
