Frederick R. Lowry Dear editor: On Tuesday, May 12, we drove from Winnipeg to attend a funeral at St. John’s Anglican Church. We managed to find parking in front of the library, however, our daughters drove straight ahead and parked with other vehicles further down Church Street. There were a […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Douglas W. Judson Dear editor: Yet again I find myself compelled to offer critical praise for the stirring dramatic exploits of John Rafferty and Co., now in their seventh month of fabrication. In this latest episode of New Democrat deception, our lead male, Mr. Rafferty, blatantly defrauds the electorate about […]
Elsie Hampton Dear editor: I am writing with regard to recent changes made to the Northwestern Health Unit’s audiology program. In the April 15, 2009 edition of the Fort Frances Times, an ad from the Northwestern Health Unit stated: “On May 15, 2009, the Northwestern Health Unit will discontinue hearing […]
Carol and Dick Lyons Dear editor: The following is an excerpt from a news item in the May 7, 2009 online edition of the Toronto Globe and Mail: A gift from a cultural philanthropist family, Bluma Appel Community Trust, was announced by the Toronto Public Library as it kicked off […]
Rudolf K.F. Zeitlhofer Dear sir: In regard to the recent controversy about the new Fort Frances Public Library and Technology Centre, it is apparent that many people do not understand what lies at the heart of the issue. Simply put, it is a political problem for our town council. They […]
Karen Higgins Dear sir: Thank you to the honest person who turned in my purse at Tim Hortons on Friday, May 1. It was very appreciated! Signed, Karen Higgins Burlington, Ont.
Betty Sivonen Dear editor: I must agree with Keith and Joanne Gosselin about the proposed new library (Letters to the editor, April 22). Why spend loads of money when you have a new Bingo hall sitting vacant on McIrvine Road that can be built onto, with plenty of room for […]
Nadia Hedman To the editor: Thank you once more for the space in your newspaper for me to speak up—again—regarding the safety of pets in vehicles. Back on March 1, it finally became law for animals to be cared for properly, not only in transporting them but in every other […]
Helen Crook Dear editor: This is a serious letter of complaint about the deer situation in town. Apparently, not enough fines, or those of a sufficient amount, were levied to make an impression on those residents who feed the deer. One can only ask if they think a beautiful appearance […]
Bill KrukoskiAllan T. Bedard Dear editor: We cannot believe there is a bylaw being prepared in the backdoor to eliminate sidewalks already established in town. To further complicate matters, the statement that boulevards can be used to store snow in the winter, saving the town snow removal costs, is totally […]
Paul Murphy Dear editor: My group is working together to help fight obesity, but we want to expose weight bias stigma and discrimination. This is the undertow of the obesity crisis. I am working to create a nation-wide action plan for obesity. Let’s measure fitness using treadmills, blood pressure, and […]
Lezlie Goodwin Dear editor: Comments made by Brian W. Love of Mine Centre in his letter to the editor headlined “Lip Service,” which appeared in the March 25, 2009 edition of the Fort Frances Times, contained misconceptions and outright inaccuracies regarding the role and position of the Ontario Federation of […]
