Dear Mr. Editor:
I never thought for one moment I would be writing another letter to the editor on the topic of replacing Coun. Tannis Drysdale, but lo and behold, I am.
What is wrong with our council? Why do they ignore the same taxpayers who put them in office? Is it not clear the voting public demands this replacement to be by succession?
Enough is enough!
I, for one, would like to make my position clear. Mayor Avis, it is time for you to step up to the plate and provide some leadership. It is time to develop some backbone and do what is right for this community. I believe it’s time to do what is required of you. Lead, don’t follow.
I also believe if you are so busy with your own business, and are not available to fulfill the office of mayor, then resign and let someone else in who can and will do the job.
We do not need a figurehead in these most difficult times. What we need is this council to put their personal differences aside and replace Ms. Drysdale by succession. Clearly that would be Mr. Perry.
For council’s information, Thunder Bay had an identical position to Fort Frances, and last week after community pressure decided they would replace by succession (based on past practices) rather than hold a costly byelection.
Maybe the money earmarked for the byelection would be better spent on the likely override of costs on the subway rebuild.
In closing, I believe it would be wise to have our replacement councillor involved with establishing the budgets, rather than being forced to work under a budget they had no part of due to being elected after the budget process is complete.
This only makes sense.
On another note, thank you for the mayor’s article in last Wednesday’s Fort Frances Times. It was greatly appreciated and I hope to see more of them.
Yours truly,
Bill Krukoski
