Dear editor: I am still upset over the official name change at the Sister Kennedy Centre and am quite surprised it never came back to the council table for reconsideration. Perhaps the new council will consider doing so. I never had a problem had the official name remained and then […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear editor: On Sept. 25, 2018, thousands of individuals, organizations, and institutions across the globe are taking actions for the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals. We have signed up at http://www.act4sdgs.org/register/ and joined the network, and want to encourage others to do the same. Individuals and organizations can take […]
Dear Mike: I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the partners and sponsors of the Stewardship Rangers Program. I wish to draw attention to the outstanding work of the ranger teams that participated in the pine marten nesting box project this summer. Over the past seven summers, […]
Dear sir: I have been somewhat perturbed by the reaction of the media in reference to the recent diplomatic dispute between Canada and Saudi Arabia. I am not referring to the Fort Frances Times. But throughout the news industry, in TV, radio, newspapers, and the internet, the reaction appears to […]
Dear sir: I am really sorry for how the Bible references came across during “Pride Week.” I admit we who claim to be followers of Jesus do a pretty poor job of it most days. The passage quoted in Romans Chapter 1 v. 26-32 came from a letter reminding believers […]
Dear editor: I write you today with a concern about the state of our main highway in Rainy River District. The section between Rainy River and Barwick has not had the weeds along the sides cut. WMU #10 is well-known for having an overabundance of deer and with weeds seven […]
Dear editor: This is in response to the letter of the editor entitled “Needles an epidemic,” which appeared in the Aug. 1, 2018 edition of the Fort Frances Times. Addiction is a serious issue in Northwestern Ontario. Regional statistics show high rates of hospitalization for substances misuse, emergency department visits […]
Dear editor, It’s not very often that you see a whole article devoted to a church service in the Times, so as a Pastor it was with much interest that I read a few weeks back, “Local church holds Pride service.” In the article were words that you would hear […]
Dear Mr. Editor, There is an epidemic festering in the Rainy River District and it is growing rapidly! When scrolling through Facebook posts, one cannot help but see the posts from concerned citizens about drug paraphernalia and needles being found in Fort Frances and the surrounding area. These bio-hazardous materials […]
Dear editor, I must apologize. When the United Church came out as affirming of LQBTQ people, I was caught up in the whirlwind of pushback by several local churches as only a very young adult could be. Taught that standing against homosexuality was making a stand for the Gospel of […]
Dear editor: Will Doug Ford please tell us what his carbon plan for Ontario is? Stephen Harper never would admit that a levy–which he favoured–was the same as a carbon tax. Now one of his most fervent foot soldiers, Jason Kenney, is saying “yes” to a carbon tax or levy–to […]
Dear editor: While attending a funeral, I noted how people appealed to God as the final hope at the end of their days on Earth. I wondered if they appealed to Him prior to this. This got me thinking about meaning and purpose to life. If, indeed, there is meaning […]
