Dear sir: I would like to express my support for the parents, students, and teachers who are petitioning the Rainy River District School Board to rescind its motion denying the students at Atikokan High School a bus. These students receive a unique educational experience which is based on the Ontario […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear editor: I clearly understand that every school board administration has a responsibility, and an obligation, to make recommendations to the trustees that are in the best interests of the population served by the board. I have lived, and continue to live, that reality. However, the question sometimes arises, “Who […]
Dear editor: This is in regard to the school bus issue in Atikokan. This is a bus that is used solely for field trips on a standby basis and not for a regular run. I am writing this letter primarily as a taxpayer first and a bus driver second. As […]
Dear editor: My thanks to Jeff Tilbury for his letter last week drawing attention to the exploding oxycodone addiction problem in our local communities. As we all know, the first step in addressing any problem is to acknowledge that it exists. Each of us needs to help address this issue. […]
Dear Mike: I hear that a friend of a friend has cancer. Inoperable, they say. In for a battle, they say. And I am saddened. I don’t know this person well; only to say hello and small talk. But I look down, sad to hear the news. I remember just […]
Dear editor: Poverty is the most formidable barrier to inclusion and full participation in society. The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 defines a barrier to “mean anything that prevents a person with a disability from fully participating in all aspects of society because of his or her disability, […]
To the editor: I have been following news stories of the new biomass boiler with great interest. I’m quite impressed by all the positive reportage on the subject. I can see the obvious advantages this boiler will bring to both the mill and the community at large. In fact, I’ve […]
Dear editor: We would like to add our congratulations to the library committee, and a special thank you to all who have dedicated a good deal of their time to make the new library a reality. A modern library, with advanced technologies and better equipment to help both young and […]
To the editor: Bears! Well, there’s not much more I, or the government, hasn’t said. One thing is certain, they and the problems they’re causing are not going away. As I begin my annual campaign handing out letters and “We support tourist outfitters” signs to local businesses, it seems most […]
Dear editor: This letter is in response to a column that appeared recently in the Fort Frances Times on the matter of taking time for our families. Most everyone would admit that life in this present decade is hectic, to say the least. Living expenses are on the increase, and […]
Dear editor: I would like to send this response as my comments to the many articles I’ve been reading about the changes to the clinic and the doctor shortage. I agree that we are in need of some changes and that we need to address these issues quickly. I also […]
Dear editor: Let me get this straight. The Government of Ontario, through its minister of natural resources, makes a presentation of a grant of some $22.5 million. All well and good, no problem with that. But there among the dignitaries was the federal member of Parliament Ken Boshcoff, of all […]
