Donations sought

Dear editor/citizens:
Ever since the passing of my dear friend and colleague, Struchan Gilson, I have been wanting to go forward with a FFHS bursary in his name for a graduating student going on to post-secondary education in the field of sport, recreation, or physical education.
I recently contacted the Gilson family and they are overjoyed with the idea of remembering Struchan’s name in such a fashion.
I anticipate donations from the town, the board of education, the family, and the local ladies’ volleyball league.
But because Struchan touched so many lives in this community, not only as a teacher and coach but as a volunteer and citizen, I felt it would be appropriate to allow residents of Fort Frances the opportunity to contribute, as well.
If you or your family would like to make a donation to this bursary, please contact Bill Fisher at the FFHS Guidance Department and he will be able to give out receipts for tax purposes.
My hope is to generate sufficient funds to provide a bursary of $300-$500 every year without touching the principle.
Thank you very much in anticipation of your donation.
Sincerely yours,
Rick Wiedenhoeft
Fort Frances, Ont.
P.S. In order to go ahead with the bursary this year, donations must be in to the high school by the third week in April. Sorry about the rush.
