Dear editor, As a recently retired member of the Emo Fire Dept. with over 20 years of service I found the comments by Chief Griffith of the A.C.E.L Fire Departments on B93 radio regarding practice numbers upsetting. I have spoken to several firefighters from A.C.E.L and was told practice numbers […]
Letters
All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Fort Frances Times is no exception.
Rules governing letters to the editor in the Fort Frances Times are:
All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactory identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying publication if necessary to make the verification.
Letter will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic of primarily local interest.
If a letter attacks another individual or group, the Times will allow a response in the same edition.
Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.
Dear editor, It is truly unfortunate that we as a society only grab a hold of just enough information to support a certain predetermined line of thinking, and not consider all the pertinent information. This “interview” that the retired Deputy Chief is quoting are sound clips that I believe were […]
Dear editor, Last summer, I was in Salmon Arm B.C., I noticed there hanging flower pots/baskets, were so high off the ground, only the birds could see the pretty flowers. On my way back to Ontario, I stopped in a little place called Indian Head Saskatchewan and there were hanging flower […]
Dear editor, If leading by example is best practice, Doug Ford is a poor teacher. Invoking the notwithstanding clause encourages tyrants and would-be tyrants across the country. Mr. Ford now joins Francois Legault, Danielle Smith, and Scott Moe in assaults against democracy. Democracy is fragile and must be defended. It […]
Dear editor, The following is an open letter to Premier Doug Ford from North Bay Pride. Dear Premier Ford: North Bay Pride is writing to you to express our concerns over actions taken against the educational workers in the Province of Ontario, many who are members of our pride community. […]
Dear editor, In a step back in reconciliation efforts, the federal and provincial governments have decided to exclude the voices of urban Indigenous Peoples at their annual justice meeting with National Indigenous leaders. The vast majority of Indigenous people now live in urban and rural areas and face ongoing systemic racism […]
Dear editor, The municipal election is coming up in my hometown of Fort Frances, and there are two very distinct visions for the town on the ballot: On the one hand, there’s Ken Perry. I remember when I presented to Council about my petition to rename Colonization Road – I […]
To the editor, Mayor June Caul and Mayor Harley Droba, I was born and raised in Fort Frances and return every summer to the family cabin that my Mom and Dad built in 1952. I am in my eighth decade of travelling on and enjoying Rainy Lake. When I return […]
Dear editor, The proposed amalgamation and loss of one riding in NorthWestern is of major concern to our entire region. Indeed when one considers the huge expanse of territory, larger than many provinces, and remarkably larger than many countries in this world- it becomes startlingly clear that an ADDITIONAL Member […]
Dear editor, The demolition of the mill has destroyed the Town’s industrial tax base, and the well-being of this community. Resolute confirmed “… the Crossroute SFL was extended by the Minister on February 27, 2018,” This extension cleared the path for Resolute to sell the Fort Frances mill and keep […]
According to The Royal Bank of Canada website, “By 2028, projections suggest thatapproximately 700,000 trade workers will retire.” This means more workers will be leaving the field than entering. Sadly, we are seeing the effects of this starting to impact our economy. This could be an opportunity for women to […]
I have never known a life without technology. Growing up we had tv and as I got older, tablets and smartphones. It’s crazy, in the past 13 years, how advanced and fast the world is changing around us. Sometimes I wish I was born in a generation with no technology […]
