BARB DAWYDUK

Barb Dawyduk, of Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Thursday, Jan. 1, 2009.

MARIE A. HYATT

Peacefully on Thursday, Dec. 25, 2008 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont., Marie A. Hyatt of Fort Frances entered into rest at the age of 81.
Marie was born Dec. 4, 1927 in Fort Frances to the late John and Prozina Mutz. After her mother’s passing, Marie was adopted by the late Alvin and Verna Canfield.
Marie was united in marriage to Robert (Bob) Hyatt in 1947 and together they moved to a farm south of Devlin, Ont., where they farmed and raised their family.
In 1984, they retired and left the farm, moving to Fort Frances.

ORVAL ALLAN LOUGHEED

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and best friend, Orval Allan Lougheed, on Monday, Dec. 22, 2008 at the Lake of the Woods Hospital in Kenora, Ont.
Orval was born Nov. 11, 1924 in Carpenter Township to the late Israel and Elma Lougheed.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Edra Jean (nee Murray); their five children, Billy (Charlotte), Jeanne (Morley) McDonald, Glen, Grant (Lorette), and Les (Ellen); nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

R. EARL MARSH

After a lengthy illness, R. Earl Marsh passed away Thursday, Dec. 25, 2008 in Calgary, Alta. at the age of 82.
Earl was born Oct. 29, 1926 in Sleeman, Ont., and is survived by his wife, Betty; daughter, Heather; son-in-law, Trevor Battle; sisters, Mildred Marsh and Betty Hagarty; brother-in-law, Alvin Hagarty; sisters-in-law, Elaine Mercier and Edna Marsh; and many nephews and nieces.
Earl was predeceased by his parents, Bob and Rena Marsh; and brothers, Clifford, Gordon, Donald, and Doug. 
Memorial service to be announced in the spring. 

CLAIRE ANNETTE HASTIE

Mom peacefully passed away on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008 at Victoria Hospital in Winnipeg, Man.
Born on Jan. 5, 1917 in Fort Frances, Ont. to Ed and Alma Roy, Mom spent most of her life in Fort Frances with the exception of three years in Prince Rupert, B.C. and three years in Virgina, Mn.
In earlier years, Mom spent time knitting sweaters, mostly curling sweaters. Both her and dad were real curlers, and spent many hours at the rink and on bonspiels.
Mom also loved to can, and it really showed as the shelves were full of pickles and jams.

GARNETT ADAM NEILSON

Peacefully on Friday, Dec. 26, 2008, Garnett Adam Neilson of Rainycrest in Fort Frances, Ont. passed away with Vivian, his wife of 62 years, at his side.
Garnett was born Jan. 29, 1926 on the Neilson homestead in Sifton Township. He grew up there hunting and fishing and contributing to the family livelihood; as well as learning the ethics of hard work, honesty, and self-reliance—values that he carried with him for the rest of his life.

ANDREW MICHAEL SPELLMAN

Andrew Michael Spellman, 20, of Fort Frances, Ont., passed away suddenly on Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances.
Andrew was born Jan. 27, 1988 in Winnipeg, Man. He was an avid outdoorsperson who enjoyed snowmobiling, hunting, and fishing.
He was looking forward to a career in aviation.
Left to cherish his memory is his mother, Dawn Spellman; father, Michael Vanderhorst; and brother, David.

WANDA VIVIAN WISE

Wanda Vivian Wise, 86, of 901 Shevlin Ave., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008.
She was born Aug. 3, 1922, in Chokio, Mn. to the late Edward and Helen Schmidt.
Wanda grew up and attended school in Herman, Mn., where she lived on the family farm. She graduated from beauty college in Minneapolis, where she met Don during the war. On Feb. 22, 1946, they were united in marriage.

VIVIAN ADELINE SMITH

On Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2008, Vivian Adeline Smith, of Rainy River, Ont., went to be with her Lord at the age of 88 years.
Vivian was born April 21, 1920 to John Victor (JV) Smith and Ruth Ericson in Minnedosa, Man. She moved to Rainy River with her family as a small girl.
She is survived by her brother, Calvin Smith.
She was predeceased by her parents; and brothers, John Wesley, Donald, Russell, Gordon, and Victor.
Vivian was a teenager when God “gloriously saved” her. She devoted the rest of her life to her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

JOHN BODNARCHUK

John Bodnarchuk, 78, of Rainy River, Ont., passed away peacefully Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008 at the Rainy River Health Centre in Rainy River with family at his side.
John was born Feb. 28, 1930 in Sundown, Man. to the late Karl and Annie Bodnarchuk.
In his younger years, John began driving truck and continued for 44 years until his retirement. In his later years, John will be best remembered driving his small red tractor plowing gardens and pushing snow.
One of his favourite pastimes was playing his violin at various functions in Rainy River District.
