TAMEKA AVERY MAJOR

October 31, 2005 – May 27, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Tameka Avery Major, a member of Onigaming First Nation, at the age of 20 on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, in Onigaming First Nation, with family and close friends by her side.

Tameka was born in Fort Frances, Ontario, on October 31, 2005, to Kelly Major and Norman Goodchild.

Tameka was a beloved granddaughter, daughter, sister, auntie, cousin, and friend. She had a kind heart and a deep love for the people around her. She cherished spending time with her many friends and family and created countless memories that will be treasured forever.

Tameka enjoyed trying new hobbies and expressing her creativity. She loved beading, horseback riding, gaming, embroidery, diamond dotting, journaling, and building Lego sets. She also loved singing and had a special passion for music. There was rarely a moment when music was not playing around her, and she enjoyed sharing her favourite songs with everyone she loved.

Tameka had a special love for her cat, Xena, who brought her comfort and companionship. Although she faced many hardships throughout her life, she always carried love and compassion for others. She was known for her caring nature, sense of humour, and her ability to make people feel welcome. Tameka shared a special bond with all of her siblings and had a great love for her family.

Left to cherish her memory are her siblings Justin Goodchild, Tianna Copenace (Kevin Paul), Ashtyn Copenace, Zachary Copenace (Autumn Kelly), Lezayah Copenace (Dylan Hosack), Kelaysia Kelly, Azalea Kelly, Malikye Major-Goodchild, Isabella Major-Goodchild, and Niisha Major.

She will also be lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews Ayla, Ila, Delilah, Lev, Elody, Zayde, Zendaya, and baby Norman.

Tameka is also survived by her special friend Eastyn Kelly; along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and many friends.

Tameka was predeceased by her parents Kelly Major and Norman Goodchild; her grandmother Marilyn Major; and her great-grandmother Pearl Major.

Special Message – In honour of Tameka’s life, and to help those who may be suffering in silence, we ask that you check in on your loved ones, offer kindness, and help break the stigma surrounding mental health.

Remember Tameka for the vibrant, caring, and loving person she truly was. Though she is no longer with us, her memory, laughter, music, and spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Forever loved, forever remembered, and forever missed.

Traditional wake will be held at Onigaming First Nation on Tuesday, June 2, at 4:00 p.m. with service to on June 3, at 10:00 a.m. Elder will be Tommy Councillor.
