On Tuesday, May 12, we drove from Winnipeg to attend a funeral at St. John’s Anglican Church.
We managed to find parking in front of the library, however, our daughters drove straight ahead and parked with other vehicles further down Church Street.
There were a lot of cars, and it was pouring rain.
Upon leaving the church, the girls discovered that they had received a ticket. They went immediately to the town hall but, as it was just after 4 p.m., no one was available. Some people came out as they stood there and they said, “Excuse me, can you help us?” but no one would even answer them.
They had to leave town immediately as they had to work the next day, so we said we would talk to the person in charge.
When we went there, the man wouldn’t even discuss it, saying, “Sorry, but you have to pay it. I am not cancelling any of the tickets.”
The only sign was a small one right at the corner, which said calendar parking. But as they never saw the sign, and 20 or more cars already parked, they thought they could, as well.
Also, two of the deceased’s sons were ticketed.
Is this the way you treat visitors to your town?
