The Treaty #3 Police Service is warning the public to be on alert after an attempted child abduction on the First Nation community of Northwest Angle #37, which is located on Highway 71 south of Sioux Narrows.
On Tuesday, Aug. 23, police said a nine-year-old male from Northwest Angle #37 was approached near his residence by an adult male in a white or light grey SUV.
The adult male was sitting in the vehicle when he approached the boy and said, “Get in!”
The boy said, “No.”
The adult male then got out of the car and got closer to the boy, opened the rear door, and said louder, “Get in!”
The boy again said “No!”
At that point, the adult male tried to grab the boy’s arm while stepping on his foot and said louder, “Get in!”
The boy was able to run away and returned home.
The boy and two other witnesses described the suspect vehicle as being a white/light grey or gold sport utility vehicle (maybe a Ford) with tinted windows, possibly bearing a Manitoba or U.S. licence plate.
The male suspect was described as being Caucasian in appearance, about 30-40 years of age, with a slim build, round face, and short reddish hair and a beard.
He was wearing glasses and/or sunglasses, a red-and-black ball cap, a brown jacket or sweater, and black pants.
Witnesses also have said the same man has been seen in the area driving other vehicles, as well.
One was described as being a Ford Fairmont type of vehicle, grey in colour, with a ball on the antenna with a smiley face on it.
This vehicle also was observed to have silver bumpers on the front and back of the vehicle.
