Works both ways

Dear editor:
I keep reading the complaints in the Times about how the Canadian Customs is holding up the American camp owners and fishermen at the border because of earlier offences, such as drunk driving when an individual was younger.
It seems these offences stay on your record.
Well, they aren’t the only ones being held up at borders.
I had to get to Winnipeg in a hurry to make my appointment on time. But we were held up at the American border for such a long time because the fellow who drove me had a drunk driving offence when young.
We were late for my operation because of the hold-up at the bridge.
I was so thankful to the specialist for taking me, even though we were late, when he heard we were stuck at the border.
Sincerely,
Vivian Olson
