Whiskey Jacks plan 10-year celebration

The Whiskey Jack Carvers will be holding their 10th-annual “Rick Jensen carving weekend” at their clubhouse in Emo on April 26-27.
Jensen, an author and first-class carver from Crookston, Mn., is a personal friend of Whiskey Jacks president Steve Latimer.
Jenson has been visiting the club to help with various projects every year for the past nine years.
The Whiskey Jacks will have a display of this year’s projects on Saturday, April 26 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. and again on Sunday, April 27 from 8 a.m. until they are finished (around 2:30-3 p.m.)
The clubhouse is in Richard Veldhuisen’s woodworking shop on Cemetery Road in Emo.

The Emo spray park committee is looking for volunteers. If you can donate some time and have some special ideas about fundraising, the committee really needs your help.
Its next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, April 30 at 6:30 p.m. at the Emo Inn.
The committee is getting close to reaching its fundraising goal, but needs a little more help to make this project a success.

The Border Concert Association needs two new Canadian directors to sit on its board. It is not a difficult job. In fact, choosing next year’s concerts is a lot of fun.
The Border Concert Association will be much more efficient with a full board.
If you have time to spare and enjoy having the concerts in Backus Auditorium in International Falls, then please give Dave a call at 482-2540.

In related news, the Border Concert Association would like to remind season ticket-holders of its last concert of the 2007-08 season, the Barbary Coast Dixieland Band, which will take place Thursday, April 24 starting at 7:30 p.m.
Keep in mind that crossing the bridge may be a little slow. Make sure you leave a little early so that you don’t miss the opening number.
Tickets will be available early in September for next year’s concert series.

The first-annual Barwick Gun and Hobby Show will take place Saturday, May 3 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. in the Barwick community hall.
Admission is $3 for adults while kids are free. There also will be free coffee.

Knox United Church in Emo will be holding a Mother’s Day tea on Friday, May 9 from 7-9 p.m. and again on Saturday, May 10 from 2-4 p.m.
Join them for a tea and bake sale. There also will be an old-time portrait studio.
Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for children eight and up. Come and enjoy the fun—and get your picture taken!
